ebinmaine 67,277 #27 Posted September 22, 2020 The overall design is good. The carb and spark systems can be finicky. You'll be fine!
Tractorhead 9,064 #28 Posted September 22, 2020 it‘s allway‘s a challenge bring a system back to healthy Status, if it was prior poorly maintained or even raped. over the Time i learned maintroubles on ignition where mostly based on a burned ignition coil or corroded or bad Ground connection, Worn points or a defect condenser. The badest i had ever seen was completely rusted out magnets in the Flywheel, they fell out and damaged so the whole ignition system. But you status of the Engine seems it worth to rework.

Yes, I do think somebody took very good care of this considering the condition and lack of wear and sloppy parts. The steering is even tight and no rust on the deck!
Greentored 3,201 #30 Posted September 30, 2020 (edited) The girlfriend was nice enough to let me tinker on this one at the house. Got the hood cut and buffed, and was able to find most of the original paint under there. Fabbed up my own governor linkage for now and replaced the governor gear. Still fighting carb issues, mainly the little metering rod thats in the idle well- it will stick and not idle after running the engine, and I can tap on the carb with a solid object, itll start idling again til next time I load it. Hopefully this will work itself out in time. She cuts grass like a champ! Gotta say I am very impressed with what 6 horsepower is capable of! Our push mower is a 5.5, 22" cut and doesnt have nearly the power- and this little bugger is yanking a 400+lb tractor and 180lb rider along! ebinmaine 67,277 #33 Posted October 1, 2020 Scott I should be able to get some shop time this weekend so I can check out the governor linkage for you and see what I have
Greentored 3,201 #34 Posted October 2, 2020 @ebinmaine no rush buddy. The linkage I whipped up is acceptable for now, just lacks any fine adjustment. This thing is definitely worth putting the correct parts on. @Tractorhead the 'little tekky that could' is doing a great job- very impressed for 6 little horsepower! The metering rod in the idle well keeps sticking, I would like to skip the carb across the pavement and replace it with a Kohler carb haha, but keeping my temper in check. I think it will free itself up with some use. If this machine wasn't as nice and original as it is, it would have an 8hp Kohler on it. I have a pair of them sitting on the bench.
