312-8 Magnum engine stalling

Hi,

My 312-8 has been sitting for about a year with no gas in it.

I tried it out and it ran fine for about 20 minutes. Now the engine only runs for about 10 seconds and stops. It is hard to start then runs for 10 seconds and stops again.

It has gas and oil. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump.

Any ideas?

Check the fuel system. Make sure fuel is getting to the carb and clean the carb.  Have you replaced the fuel line from the tank to the pump and checked the petcock? We don't change the fuel hoses and they do disentgrate over time.

agree with skwerl 58 on a fuel issue , that 10 sec run is telling you of gas starvation. i would also try to use your hand to cover carb to try and suck thru what might be causing the issue . as above , check petcock , fuel filter , will it keep running on carb cleaner? . pete

I removed the hose from the fuel pump and it was pumping through but I don't know how strong it should pump. So it is getting fuel at least up to the fuel pump.

Did you remember to open the gas tank shut off valve?

Hi Guys

I replaced the fuel pump and it still acted the same. I cleaned the carb and spark plug checked for spark and still no change.

I checked the gas tank valve again and it was open. I took the hose off the valve and there was a clog. Cleaned it out and it worked.

The tractor is running now!
