Whatschamatterwithyou! :ychain:

A buddy of @Achto and mine is into Simplecitys and recently scored a B like that one and it was pristine. I always like those seats and the one on his was immaculate. Almost like someone had taken it off and never used it. Dan can chime in about if you have points problems with that Briggs.

We don't have enough space to discuss what wrong with me :laughing-rofl: Someone converted this to an external coil. The one under the flywheel quit and I'm going to leave it that way too, they are a pain to replace when they go bad!

It seems to work ok, but I'm not familiar with the bevel gear box.

I think the fix was to put a new fangled solid state coil under the flywheel... Dan knows.

I guess the bevel gears are what goes and hard to find.

I think you still can find everything to rebuild them, more of weak point in the design/tractor

That should have a cast iron Briggs with a starter/gen, nothing under the fly wheel but air. Even the points would be accessible with out removing the fly wheel. With any luck a solid state coil was installed backwards on the engine hence eliminating the points.

The bevel gear box is under the seat. On the right hand side is a belt that runs to the tranny. Put the tractor in neutral an see how much rotation you can get out of the front pulley before it catches the engine. Any thing under 1/8 of a turn is good, up to a 1/4 turn will still work. Anything beyond that it will require service, (shims or a rebuild) Rebuild can get spendy, around 3 Benny's in parts.

Very nice looking Allis you have!! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I have no idea why it has an external coil to be honest.

Can you still buy parts for these? If so what dealership would have AC parts?

:wicked:  Ayou picked up . Don’t know much about their garden tractors but I see you already found the forum that I was going to suggest. I’d keep it as original as possible but have the seat reupholstered. Just My   :twocents-02cents:  . Can you post a Close up picture of the seat , measure between the pleats and see if pleats are sewn or heated on like our :wh:Horses . Our resident Simplicity guru @perry seems not to have not posted since 2017 and last visited us in July 2019 :( .

They are sewn seats, there used to be a lady on the simplicity sites that was selling them, the one I had, my mom made me a seat cover, I was afraid to use the sewing machine figured I would run my had through it or something

A Simplicity dealership will be able to help you with any parts that are still available. Other than that, Google should help find the rest. The only mechanical difference that I know of between the early Allis & Simplicity is the pulley on the transmission. An Allis has a smaller pulley that gears them up a little.

One other small downer on Simplicity is there is no such thing as an off the shelf bearing or bushing. They will all be odd sized and available only from Simplicity.

WHX??

How much slop is in the steering Mike?

Look at the bottom end of the steering wheel shaft. There should be a sector gear there that meshes with a gear on the shaft. There may be a cam type bolt there to keep the sector gear tight against the shaft gear.

I am not sure if the gtt site is still working but they had the manual for the simplicity 725 which is a pretty good reference.  Most of it should be the same for yours

I found a parts manual for the B1 on simpletractors.com, it's a forum like this but for Allis/Simplicity

It has a little, but not bad. I'll check that out.

I also heard Glen Pettit mad reproduction dust covers for the front wheels, but couldn't find that info on his vendor site and I don't know if he is active and healthy or not.

Allis- Chalmers and Simplicity are the only other brands I will own except for Wheelhorse. Very durable, well built machines.  Enjoy.

Both Simplicity and Allis ran stock 6in rear drive pulley , they offered a 8in and 10in pulley to slow the tractor down for tilling or snow blowing. The Bearings are common get them anywhere.  it is the Belts that are odd ball size . and very important to use correct size belts on these machines. The Allis B-1 is exact same as a Simplicity 725 Model # 990271 just different sheet metal .

You peaked my curiosity with this. So I stopped by my buddies & did some measuring. His two B-10's and his B-1 all have 6" pulleys on the tranny. His four Landlords all have 8" pulleys. Even his B-207 has a smaller pulley that his Yeoman or his Broadmoor's. Just kinda figured that they put a smaller pulley on the Allis's than they did on the Simple City's. :dunno:
