jsp_333 267 #1 Posted September 16, 2020 Doing my first rj 58 project. I've got it driving on the road now. First thing I noticed was a lot of slop / play in the brake pedal. It felt like there should be a spring providing some tension. Sure enough the schematic shows a spring near the brake collar. Can someone tell me / post photo of exactly where the spring goes & how it connects to brake/clutch system. Cheers.
jsp_333 267 #2 Posted September 16, 2020 Hit the brakes. Found it buried in the archives from 10 years ago. I searched before posting original question but the search function of the site just baffles me.I

bottjernat1 2,190 #4 Posted September 16, 2020 On my rj58 I have the rod going from the pivot point threw the brake band with a spring on the back of the brake band held on the rod with a washer and lock nut.
jsp_333 267 #5 Posted September 16, 2020 Bottjernat1 Interesting set up. Actually really appreciate the comment and photos. The spring in the picture I posted above appears to fit quit easily under the brake band. Mine (The closest one at hand) has an OD of 13/16 and there is no way it's going straight underneath the break band. I've got a few '58 corpses in the backyard I'll see if they have the spring set either way.

jsp_333 267 #7 Posted September 16, 2020 Bottjernet1 No need. 'preciate the thought. But think I figured it out I believe your set up is how the "handles" work on the snow cabs. Your spring pushes forward. The other spring pulls back. Same result. Also look what I found in the graveyard.
wallfish 16,985 #8 Posted September 17, 2020 Yeah, the search feature isn't the best because it lists so much irrelevant threads so you have to comb through sometimes to find what you're looking for. But just to add this for the next guy searching the same thing
jsp_333 267 #9 Posted September 17, 2020 Wallfish Thanks for the great illustrative photo. Never would've known about connecting the spring to the loop otherwise. The piece in the back is the correct part and I found it installed correctly. Who knew when I removed it tranny fluid would come pouring out so I just quickly put it back on. Glad to know I'm not the only one baffled / frustrated by the search function.
