ebinmaine 67,274 #1 Posted September 14, 2020 We've used a bow saw, gas chainsaw, bypass and anvil style loppers. Loppers just don't last long around here. Trina really can't use a gas saw because of the vibration. It's fine for me for an hour or two. She has an electric saw but obviously the cord length is a restriction. We have a small silky saw that works ok. Been thinking of getting a bigger silky saw. Curious to know what the rest of you use.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #2 Posted September 14, 2020 This would eliminate the ext cord problem. It’s my dads and I borrowed it for some cleanup I need to get done, but haven’t used it yet. I’m sure it doesn’t vibrate like a gas saw. 2 1
WHNJ701 4,165 #3 Posted September 14, 2020 We picked up a ryobi battery chainsaw, it's great if you got cut a couple little things and don't feel like gasing up the big saws
Skwerl58 702 #4 Posted September 14, 2020 I use a Husky chain saw, an axe, loppers, bow saw but usually the chain saw or felling axe.

biged77 113 #7 Posted September 15, 2020 Gas or battery powered pole chainsaw. You can reach limbs easier and don't have to bend over as much (appreciate more as you get older). Also safer.

Chainsaw and machete mainly. Edited September 15, 2020 by Stormin

I got this exact saw as a wedding gift last year and I love it. As long as you are using the 4-5 amp hour battery it lasts quite a while, it's nearly silent, there is next to zero vibration, it is easy to handle, there is so much to love about this saw. I have found that because of the electric motor it actually cuts better than some of my gas saws due to what I am guessing is the torque that it has (or maybe all my gas saw blades are just really really dull ). I was very cautious going into using this, not expecting to like the battery powered saw but I am a believer now. I even purchased DeWalts battery powered pole saw (pictured below) which has been fantastic for limbing trees. Quite literally my only complaint on the regular saw is that the bar is only 12 inches, I believe that you can put a bigger bar on the 60v models, but right now I have only 20v batteries and tools. Let me know if you have any specific questions on it, I'd be happy to answer them. Edited September 15, 2020 by Alex175

formariz 11,987 #11 Posted September 15, 2020 Considered a battery operated one but by the time one buys an extra battery it’s well over the cost of one of these. Great saw NOT made in China.
Mickwhitt 4,589 #12 Posted September 15, 2020 Been dropping bows off some of the community trees this morning. Loppers (Barnell from USA) to get into the main branches, then gas chain saw to cut the big bows down. A Silki boy pruning saw (Japanese and sharp as can be) to take off any small branches or loppers. We use the cut brush wood to reinforce the fence line which used to have chain link fencing which has rotted leaving just the posts. Hopefully natural hawthorn hedging will grow through the cut brush and we can lay that into a traditional hedge.

Darb1964 1,042 #15 Posted September 15, 2020 My wife got a small saw with a rechargeable battery, I think sunjoe, or some thing like that. I at first thought it was a joke, looked like a toy, but I was wrong, works good very safe and she loves it. Battery life is good, she did get an extra one, also got a pole saw same brand. Probably home owner quality but has not failed us yet, think she paid around one hundred $for it about five years ago.

You can get it in the tool section of either Home Depot or lowes. You will find it with the other sawzall blades. I have a cordless Milwaukee too. Works great for small branches, even the occasional large branch. As long as battery doesn't run out. 1

I tried out three or four different ones when we put up the canvas garage, horse stable. Had to cut a bunch of roots out and obviously didn't want to use a regular chainsaw.
Lee1977 6,642 #21 Posted September 16, 2020 Pole saw if just cutting off limbs. If I take down a tree for removing the brush ( limbs to small for fire wood ) a axe is quicker. Then finish up with the chainsaw.
chinoman279 10 #22 Posted September 16, 2020 Another vote for the dewalt chainsaw. I opted for the 60 volt a couple years ago and haven't touched my gas saw since. One of the first jobs was a large clearing of trees, about 1 acre worth, and ran the cordless side by side with a friend's gas powered 18 inch. We were not sure what to expect. What we found was a 9 ah(3 ah at 60 volts) battery was almost exactly equivalent to one tank of 2 cycle mix every time. The quietness of the cordless was nice!
tom2p 2,394 #23 Posted September 16, 2020 I have a Homelite gas chainsaw I have not used in many years - and no plans to use it I currently use an inexpensive Worx electric chainsaw ; I have rolls of heavy duty extension cord suits my use - fairly low use ... mostly pine and poplar ... only small small limbs on oak if I purchase another chain saw will lean toward battery powered last tree I cut with the Worx
