Tires Too Big?

Recommended Posts

71_Bronco

Finally saved enough pennies to get a set of rear tires for my Lawn Ranger.

I upped the size of the fronts by 2" in the diameter, so i was going to up the rears by 2" as well. That would make my rears 18x8.50-8 or 18x9.50-8.

I'm not planning on using this tractor for anything other than a fun rider (no mowing or anything). I MAY decide to throw the plow back on, but it would only be for fun / show.

I was looking at tire sizes, and noticed I can also get 20x10-8 tires. I already have a set of 8 inch wheels, so I'm working with that constraint. 20x10-8 would probably look massive on this tractor (not a bad thing).

What do you guys think? Step up to 20's? Or stay at 18's?

The tires on it now at 16" diameter roughly (4.80-8").

Tires too big? ------- NO such thing :D

I put 20/10-8 Aggs on my crapsman scrub mower, just because. Fill those with water, and they will also work as weights :-).

To me the question is more like: Can these clear the fenders? Can these also allow room for your implements?

But you can't trust me on this. I'm a notorious BBM (Big But Man) ------- on tractors that is!

I do have to check the fenders. I want them to fit under the little rolled lip.

I think im going to have to make a new box that the fenders mount to. I bought neutral offset wheels so the insides would come closer together, rather than making the overall width bugger (I like the look, like a tubbed pro-street car).

I would vote for the 20

i have on my 212 Horse 18 x 8,5 x 8“ on the rear.

a bit more will help increase ground speed and give you more clearance.

few pict‘s to compare

I always like to see the biggest, widest that will fit!  Tires make or break the look.  (Other than a factory original restore)

Just checked the fenders, 2" bigger will fit fine, 4" may be cutting it too close to the fenders. I think 18" tires will be the ticket.

Well, Just bit the bullet and ordered a set. Went with the 18x9.50-8 tires, Carlisle "Super Lug". Should look nice on the black 8.5" wide wheels

I was originally going to get a set of the OTR "Lawn Trac" tires, as I like the more squared profile of the edges, and the curved bar style. I think they look better than the Carlisles.

However, they are only offered in 18x8.50-8 size, and I was concerned about the width of the tire vs the width of my wheels. I probably would have been okay, but I figured the Carlisles would be a safer bet. Plus I have Carlisle tires on the front, and I'm a little OCD about stuff like that.

Here's the Lawn Tracs
