Blade balancing

Hi all.

Seeing as how I have some rotary blades to sharpen I decided to invest in a blade balancing jig.

Its a little more fancy than using a nail but it is accurate and works really easy.

Mount the blade on it using the centre cone and magnets.

Same as using a nail, grind material off the heavy end until it balances.

This is a brand new blade but it was out of balance. What caused it? Simply the paint on one end.

 BTW. I don't use a grinder. Flat file for me.

I got it off ebay. Tidying up an edge with a file is fine.

I have a lot if experience in sharpening knives and Edge tools so a grinder is good for me. I have a Tormek wet stone grinder which does not damage the temper of hsrdened steel.

 I didn't realise you meant a wet stone. I could have got one for nowt a few years back. Kicked myself many times since for not getting it.

I have the same type balancer, there are several companies that make them.  I wish the magnets were not so strong, they snap onto the blade with force making me wonder if the blade stayed centered.

I agree with the above, the magnets are super strong and do snap onto the blade making it jump off the centre cone. But I've not found the blade loses centre as yet.
