hydro fluid level and leakage

Recommended Posts

I just acquired this C-175.  Upon inspection it looks like the PO was running the transmission oil overfilled.  Does hydro_dipstick_zoom.png show an acceptable level, or is this overfilled?

I'm wondering if this tractor has a leak, so he overfills to keep up with the leak.  The lift cylinder is working well with the plow and is shown in lift_cylinder.png.  Is this a typical amount of leakage, or is this cylinder due for rework?  (is there a better forum for posts about lift cylinders, or is this the one?)

That's more leakage than I'd prefer. But I'm a bit particular.

Is it leaking to the ground/floor? That would be a good measure of actual loss.

Maybe clean and dry the whole area and watch to see how long it takes to get back to that stage.

Since thats a new to you tractor I would suggest changing the oil and returning it to the correct level

Does the oil remain clear/amber when running do does it turn milky. there a slight chance there could be water in the bottom of the transmission raising the oil level.

Its a gorgeous amber right now, but I probably haven't run it for 60 minutes yet.  Per the previous comment this is the correct level (they corrected the dipstick the following year).  Oil changes all around are the best starting point.

Now about that overfilled KT17... but that will be another thread!

I would take a few minutes and clean everything up and then do an evaluation, The oil on the cylinder may be coming from a weeping hose or fitting that is not quite tight.
