656 warn planetary gears worked to hard.

Fall plowing deep as my 6 HP techumseh could do in hard clay, I was pulling good and would find a hard pan and turn up chunks the size of a large cat and the little 6 horse pulled down hard and would get through and on we would go until the differential gears started shedding teeth I guess.  I heard a racket then nothing again when I went to turn the differential seemed locked and we'll things went south from there.  On the good side of things my new bearings, seals and third gear are all happy!  I guess parts hunting is option one.

Yikes. Glad it wasn't worse. Should be easily fixed.

953 nut

Never seen one blow apart like that, :scared-eek: looks like plenty of oil in it too. The differential from any '63 or later :wh: will fit if the axles are the same size.

The axles are 1 inch this is the 553 transmission  I believe.  It is in my 1966 656.

@Greentored

Scott if you have one you can disassemble that would be the way to go.

I thought that would have 1" axles but wasn't sure. My parts transmissions have the larger size.

Yep, I always feel lucky when something can be repaired, especially an easy parts swap!

If you have parts you can spare I would be interested

WHX??

And I thought I had tranny problems! Make sure you get all those chips out of there and go with a magnetic drain plug when she goes back together.

@C_hasbeen ill be up at the stables this weekend and will take a look. History unknown, it came with a trailer load of parts and has a hole punched in the center rear, looks like maybe a case of 'bull gear nut comes off and gets wedged' ive heard can happen.

It does turn, so hopefully perhaps some good parts you could use.

@Greentored  before you go to the effort on splitting that case, I have a fella 20 miles from me digging up some from a previous rebuild, I will know tomorrow  if I am set to go with out inconvenience  you to split a case.

Yep I have them installed and all back ready for oil and put my hubs and wheel on.  I may have already set them out when I grabbed a snapshot

Care to elaborate on who that might be exactly?

Edmund usually lurks inside Tecky carburetors throwing out carbuncles on occasion on a perfectly running engine. Usually right in the middle of mowing a big yard. Sometimes he casts a spell on crankshafts and connecting rods. This is the first known incident in a transmission
