The Tuul Crib 7,336 #1 Posted September 4, 2020 Gotta clean this gas tank to put on my charger.Any cleaner this thing with something anybody have an idea what the best cleaner would be on this plastic abrasives scotch bright pads anything?
71_Bronco 1,072 #2 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) simple green and some of those thick shop "paper" towels would be how I attack it. EDIT: I mix my simple green with a higher concentrate to water ratio. I get less out of the gallon "concentrate", but it cleans better. ebinmaine 67,274 #3 Posted September 4, 2020 Well Randy what you've got on that tank is clearly a combination of muck and schmootz. One thing that I would be very prone to doing in this particular situation is to soak that tank. Maybe overnight. In the hottest water you can start out with mixed in with some sort of oh, perhaps dish soap? I'd be a little leery about putting nasty chemicals on the plastic. Stormin 9,981 #4 Posted September 4, 2020 You could also try paint thinners/white spirit. Won't harm the plastic. Scotch Bright pads will be ok if your gentle. 1
Skwerl58 702 #5 Posted September 4, 2020 I have been known to clean plastic with that type of crud on it by using a cloth with some non ethanol gasoline. The fuel will flash dry but it does break down fuel based crud. A light coat of oil will also make it look great after you clean it. Just don't smoke while doing it! The Tuul Crib 7,336 #6 Posted September 4, 2020 These are some good ideas but I thought I was the only one @ebinmaine eric that used the word Schmutz!! Got to make it match the new paint so it Has to be clean! 1

Darb1964 1,042 #14 Posted September 5, 2020 I'd try steel wool with dish detergent and warm water. Use as much force it takes to just take off the curd.
