You'd have to remove the current one and take some measurements. I may have one I'd send you for a great price. Others above also may have them. One of the GREATEST things about being a member of Redsquare is that we take care of each other and our machines. 2
WHX?? 48,779 #27 Posted September 2, 2020 Might not be too hard. Lots of guys give up on these motors just because of hard to find other parts and they get set aside and forgot about. I'm sure youd find a decent crank or possibly other internals. There are other repo options like Bob's Kohler depending on how orginal you want to stay. Ain't a one of us here that would hold it against you for a repo of some sorts.

I appreciate it. This will end up being a winter project most likely. When I get to it, I'll post back up on here.

Not planning on giving up - I'd like to see that old motor running again! I put my old snowblower's engine on the 500 because the replacement one that was on it wouldn't allow me to use the deck. That motor is going on my wood chipper - happens to be the exact same engine that was on it. Hoping by next year the 500 will have it's original engine back on it and running! 1
ebinmaine 67,274 #30 Posted September 3, 2020 @Achto Dan, you are far more The Machinist than I'll ever dream of being. Does the end of the crankshaft look like it has enough material to drill and tap for a bolt? I have one that had that done. If that was a possibility he could use his own crankshaft over again. 1
Achto 27,504 #31 Posted September 3, 2020 A person could pull that off. You would need to use a thick washer, say 1/4" thick on the bolt to cover the hole in the fly wheel.
atbinkowski 13 #32 Posted September 3, 2020 Thanks for the ideas fellas. I have another question. How do I disengage the PTO on the 500? From what I've seen in the few (ok, one) video I've found with someone trying to do it, it has to do with a lever on the left pedal. It doesn't budge on mine, yet. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything before the Marine comes out in force
Racinbob 11,044 #33 Posted September 3, 2020 It's the small lever on the left side of the pedal on the right. Push the larger pedal and the lever will hold it disengaged be catching a roll pin. Push the little lever and it will allow it to clear the roll pin and let the pedal move back and tighten the belt. Simple but kinda hard to say. You'll need to get all the parts freed up

atbinkowski 13 #35 Posted September 4, 2020 Thank you both. When I've looked all mine, it doesn't seem like the little lever can move because of how it rides against the shaft of the pedal, but it is the exact same as in the picture. I'll see about getting it moving next week. Planning for a weekend long camping trip with my son that starts today. Thank you all again for your help and advice! Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
atbinkowski 13 #36 Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Just wanted to update everyone since you've all been so great with help and advice. My PTO pedal works very well now that you've helped me figure out how to actually use it. My pull start rope kept breaking but I did finally get the Indy running. After adjusting a pulley so the belt wouldn't come off, I cut most of my front yard without an issue. Well, other then probably cutting it too short, but I'm adjusting that too. Tractor really vibrates so I'm going to put some rubber spacers been the motor mounts and the frame to hopefully lessen it. My hands are still vibrating a bit after finishing twenty my minutes ago! Overall I'm very happy with it. Now, I need to rake my hay field... Edited September 9, 2020 by atbinkowski
Racinbob 11,044 #37 Posted September 9, 2020 Excellent! I can't imagine what's causing vibration like you're talking about but I don't recommend the rubber spacers. Wheel Horse did that for a short time and quickly went back to solid mounting. If anything they make things worse. I had a C-141 with the wobble mounts and couldn't replace them with solid mounts soon enough. I often run one of my machines for hours and don't experience what's happening to you.
atbinkowski 13 #38 Posted September 9, 2020 Hmm... Good to know. It mine be the washers then they are making it vibrate. The motor I replaced had washers lifting the engine up about a quarter inch, but with everything adjusted well, I don't think they are necessary. I'll remove those and see if it goes away. Could just be the engine, but then I would winner what was wrong with it...

atbinkowski 13 #40 Posted September 14, 2020 Their for the link to the crankshafts! I have another question. Is there a way to raise the front of the deck? Mine send to sit really low. I know the way to check it is to have the deck on the ground, so forgive the pictures. Do I have the roof from the deck to the lift lever in the right position (second pic)? What is the purpose of the bolt in the third picture? Thanks again for all the help!
