New (to me ) saw project

Recommended Posts

Digger 66

Starting to get back into project mode after screwing up 3 discs in my lower-back .

That's why I haven't been around much .

A fella at work used this saw 3 times and put it away 10 years ago with ethanol based fuel in it .

Went to start it this year and the obvious happened .. NOTHING .

He went and bought a brushless Milwaukee and GAVE me this .

Yes , I know it's a cheapie but the price was right .

Had about 180 lbs of cylinder pressure so I rolled up my sleeves and got busy .

Needed :

New fuel lines and fuel filter .

New air-head tube

New air filter boot

Carb rebuild

Primer bulb

Spark plug

Got her running like a champ !

Well done.

Those are good little homeowner grade saws.

I had a Poulan Pro saw maybe 20 years ago. Wasn't the most powerful but it did the job of occasional clearing when it needed to.

Mine ran great.

I think a 16" bar is more realistic for that engine.

I do believe a 16" bar is more suited to the CC's , the model is PP 4218 AVX so I would assume the factory setup is 42 CC's / 18" bar ?

Anyway , that first pic is a "before" and I didn't install that bar .

May pick up a 16 for it .

Nice,

it must not be allway‘s the top Limit machines, depending on it‘s uses.

I would like to suggest you by using Aspen 2 Stroke fuel.

I have best experiences over the Time, even if machines not too regulary being used,

they start at first pull, at least after second.

Yessir. That's correct.

Mine was a 4620.

With a 16" no rake pro type chain that'll actually cut quite well.

Been using Tru-Fuel 40:1 engineered / bottled NON-E fuel ( 92 octane ) for 2 years now and will never mix 2 stroke fuel again .

The stuff is awesome.

Great stuff but crazy expensive around here. ($20 for LESS than a gallon)

Luckily I can get non e fuel close by. I buy the Stens semi synthetic 50:1 mix 2 stroke oil by the case.  1 bottle per gallon of gas. Easy mix. $5 or 6 a gallon.

It's actually about 6 bucks a quart here but for the amount I use , between the weedwacker & saws around the house and maintaing the ATV trails , I'm on my 3rd bottle this year .

So if I mix a gallon , I usually wind up chucking a quart anyway .

The little Mini-Mac 30 is still my go-to saw for most jobs

Ahh yeah.

We go through 2 or 3 gallons a year easy. More wood cutting this year so we'll use even more.

About the pricing you‘re may be right, that fuel maybe a bit expensive,

but if you use the Saw rarely, like one or two Time‘s a year,

the cost relative to the more of maintanance is still it‘s benefit in my opinion.

i service my Chainsaw after each use, but i don’t like to drain it after each use.

so that stuff can be still kept into the Saw for 2 years without any demixing or bad results.

use it also on my rarely used small Genny i have.

Even after 2 years of non use it fires right up after first pull.

I use  https://www.aspenfuels.com/products/alla/aspen-2/. Since years with excellent results.

Great deal and save on the saw. I haven't had a fuel issue with my saws, mowers, washer, generator, boat or atv since I went with non ethanol 93 octane fuel with Seafoam and a premium 2 stroke oil where required. I leave my equipment tanks full and for 8-9 years have had no internal carb issues. Might just be lucky but I know what my experience has been.

I have one of those saws that I bought new. you are correct that it came with an 18" bar. A sharp chain & it will handle that 18" bar just fine.

Definitely agree with that.

If I had a machine rarely used I'd likely do something different.

I have one of those for cleaning up light storm damage. DONT leave fuel in the tank..... LOL.... the cheap chinese plastic swells and you CAN NOT get the gas cap off without mechanical assistance, I believe they now sell

non-absorbable caps  but I just dump all the fuel in my mine much more effective.

Other than that has been a great little saw for small limbs etc.
