Went to look at a Tractor... came home with....

Well today I went to go look at another Cub Cadet... Nice tractor if I had help I most likely would have gotten it. It was a Hydro so it didnt roll all to easy and I didnt feel like killing myself trying to push it up ramps into my truck as it didnt run. Was a no go on the tractor but he mentioned he wanted to get rid of some things in the garage. Garage was full of stuff I am interested in. Tools... pedal car.... tool boxes... fishing gear... snow blowers... lawn mowers... everything. All in a pile though, nothing organized. I didnt leave empty handed. I should have bought more but I am on a budget. I got this beautiful Gerstner Machinist Tool Box. Tool box was full of stuff too. Not even sure if the stuff has value. I also got this really neat little 50's or 60's retro dump cart. Someone has painted it years ago. There is no tag on it. I think I see red paint under the other paint. The box I know is worth some money. The seller use to be a machinist and I almost took some Kennedy Boxes off his hands to. I might go back as he was almost giving them away. I post some pics of what was in the box maybe you guys know what they are.

Radius gage      The box is for a height gage scriber.

 Dial indicators.

Very accurate dial indicator.

That there is one of them fancy C clamps.. Only accurate for the first use, though! 

 

The micrometers and dial indicators do have some value. Google the brands and model numbers for a better idea.

There is always a ton of that stuff on Marketplace and CL. Lots of retired machinists around. I had one of those boxes. Value varies on condition of the felt. Think I got 250 for mine.

The brands on the micrometer, radius gauges, and dial indicators are good ones.  There should be some value there.  The misclaneous c clamps and mill clamps are more speciality items.

 

If there is a machinist trade school near you, you might want to advertise there, as the students will need these sorts of items.  If your local high school has a machine shop, you could consider donating the items - possible tax write off?

That box of what looks like used cap screws were near and dear to machinist for fixture clamping. High grade and super important, could be snugged up hard to avoid loosening and crash. 

Would have been nice to see the good stuff!

Man .... not a single comment on the dump cart. I thought it was pretty cool. It is built very well. Solid rubber tires. I am going to repaint it. Looked like red paint peeking out from under the other paint. I am thinking its 1950s or 60s judging on how well its built. Its small enough that I am going to keep it around. They come in handy for so many uses other then towing kids around. I like the solid tires. Never have to worry about a flat. Real happy with this and the Chest. The small tool are just a bonus.

OK, here you go!                           It looks like a very nice shop built cart. If it was factory built I don't think the would have folded the ears over at the rear.

Now that you have some machinist tools I guess the next step will be buying a metal lathe.

Those boxes are real nice but I found you can't put much in them. At least the tools that I have. Drawers aren't tall enough. That's why I sold mine a few months after I got it

Some of what is left of my traveling tools.     I carried this case on many plane flights around the world inspecting hydro plants.    Probably wouldn't work with todays security.

My Dad worked for Brown and Sharpe for 31 years.....I have all of his stuff.....Very precise instrumentation. Stiil have his Oak Toolbox aslo...

I bought that exact toolbox in 1964, paid $68.00 and still have it.  They are currently worth about $400 depending on condition.  The higher priced ladies like them for jewelry boxes which helps keep the price up.  I also have a larger Gerstner in good condition and a very old oak box that belonged to my uncle in very used condition.

Yeah I knew the box had value. I have had my eyes on them for a long time. I have a replica of one on my dresser in the bedroom I keep hunting knives and pocket knives in. This one I think is 1968 also. No way of dating them but the little booklets that were in the box are from 68. I was hoping the key would be in the box but it wasnt. The box itself is in excellent condition except for the missing felt on the front fold down lid. I have a piece I will glue down on it. Felt left over from this old Kennedy Box I did a few years ago.
