71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) Came across this on FB last night. Super cool little tractor, always loved these "mini mowers". Never seen a "Craftsman" branded one before. Very tempted, but I have no space, and I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me if I showed up with another tractor. He's asking $250 for it. Claims it's complete but doesn't start. When she comes out she will think it has been there for ever and she just hadn't remembered seeing it. 1 1

Though, I could just leave it in the back of my SUV, she doesnt drive it.... 1
Stepney 2,325 #5 Posted August 28, 2020 They really are fun and also a pure labor of love.. here in Maine at least, you literally cant give them away. I've had several. Around here for 250 it better be running with all paperwork and perhaps a trailer. Just about nobody wants them. But unique, yes.. especially that ancient tank-in-shroud Lauson-Tecumseh engine. These always seem to be in great shape.. usually they broke down before they could wear out,

I'm surprised really, I've seen these sell pretty quick around here, not sure why. Part of me wants it cause it's so cool and unique, but it will fill the same role that my Lawn Ranger fills (fun put-around tractor). Plus I'd have to get creative with my storage and make a spot for it, maybe build a shelf for it like @oldiron613 has for his RJ's, and put it over the Lawn Ranger

71_Bronco 1,072 #9 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) This was the other pic he posted. How I knew it was a Craftsman mower. He said he's pretty firm at $250. I was thinking about letting it sit for a few days and offer like $200 or something. Edited August 28, 2020 by 71_Bronco
71_Bronco 1,072 #10 Posted August 28, 2020 Looks like it is a Sears / Craftsman 853C, from 1967. Not as old as I had thought it would be. http://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tractors/001/9/7/1974-craftsman-1318430.html
D_Mac 8,607 #11 Posted August 29, 2020 That is something I would buy. I need to go back to keeping the smaller ones. i can fit more in the garage.
71_Bronco 1,072 #12 Posted August 31, 2020 Well, got some stuff moved around and the shed is filling up fast. I have a spot to put it, but would leave no room to move / walk. The only way I'd be able to put it in the shed, and have room to work / move, would be a platform to stack this one and my Lawn Ranger. As much as I like it, I'd have to pick it up really cheap in order to justify the work i'd have to do to make a platform for it, and to drive the hour-ish round trip to get it.
71_Bronco 1,072 #13 Posted August 31, 2020 Well, as of right now, looks like I wont be picking it up. He said he wouldn't take less than the $250. I told him no hard feelings, if you change your mind, feel free to reach out to me. Probably for the best though. Still think it's a cool little mower.

wallfish 16,994 #16 Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Tell him $150 unless he has a pair of those capri pants to go with it! Wearing those is like drinking out of a straw, it's just hard to look cool doing it Edited September 17, 2020 by wallfish
71_Bronco 1,072 #17 Posted September 17, 2020 He asked if I could do $200. I reminded him that I have very limited room and I already have a couple tractors apart that I'm working on. I think I'd be comfortable at $150. $100 would be better, but I doubt he'd go that low. He obviously wants to sell it and has no takers, so he reached back out to me after 2-1/2 weeks.
71_Bronco 1,072 #18 Posted September 17, 2020 He asked how much I'd offer, I told him $150 would be my top dollar. I explained that I recognize it's a complete, almost functional tractor, but I have other projects on my plate now. Let's see what happens.

You could always tell her a couple of those other machines got together while you were out of the shop, and it was a surprise to you too! But that just happens ever now & again!
