leeave96 487 #1 Posted August 26, 2020 I’ve had a “parts” 520H for yearsssssss and decided this spring to see I could get it going and use it around our farm to mow around barns and buildings and other chores. Nothing to loose, worse case, still a parts tractor. Replacement front tire/rim, new fuel line, plugs, engine and tranny oil/filters. Air in the tires... and a 42 inch rear discharge deck. Knock on wood, seems to run great. One question... I have two other 520H tractors. One after Toro bought them and one before with the straight front axle. The older one has a different engine sound than the later Toro 520H. Both cylinders are firing, no issues there. The later model has more of a sweet throaty sound. The older one in some ways sounds like any other garden tractor. Were there different muffler internals on the 520H models over the years of production that would account for this sound difference? This 520H I just got going is a Toro Wheelhorse, but an older model. It sounds exactly like the oldest Wheelhorse from above, the one with a straight axle. Seems to rune fine, fires off first crank. Just doesn’t have that throaty sound my later model 520H has. Here is a video of the whole resurrection and ending with mowing. I can’t hear anything that would tell me it’s running on one cylinder, but maybe you can. I think it’s OK, thought I’d ask. By the way, I use to be a regular poster, going back to the Yahoo group days. I’ve been up to my ears with this farm, but am hoping to get in more Wheelhorse time and will have plenty of videos as time unfolds. Enjoy the Wheelhorse video and if you like farming videos (mostly cutting/square baling hay), check out some of those. Thanks! Bill 12
Tgalo 118 #2 Posted August 27, 2020 Just love these machines.... The 520 looks funny with such a small deck on it haha. I thought all the 520s were Toro built. They bought the brand in 86 so I thought. T

AMC RULES 37,127 #5 Posted August 27, 2020 From the looks of it, seems you might want to pull that blower housing and clean the nest out from behind there. Onan lives matter! If they can't breath... for sure, bad things will happen!

If they can't breath... for sure, bad things will happen! Thanks - you made me nervous and I was several hours away from the tractor! I checked and what you’re seeing is brown rust on the metal screen behind the plastic, unless I’m completely missing where you are referring. I probed and started the tractor and airflow is great. There’s no mouse or bees nest. In my other thread, you mentioned full rpms. It’s running full out, the camera is a DJI OSMO Action Camera and I think the noise canceling (vs my iPhone) kind of takes the edge/punch off engine and equipment sounds. Thanks again!
