bottjernat1 2,190 #2 Posted August 25, 2020 Wow my closest dealer wants more then that for me to also haul it to them. I want them to just do a good overlook of my late dads 2010 x540. But over $300 i thought was nuts for just basic stuff. I do already!
bc.gold 3,403 #3 Posted August 25, 2020 (edited) Your very fortunate you don't own one of the larger JD equipment, like a combine, miss a payment they can shut the machine down via satellite. With the economy as such, must be hurtin to be going after the domestic market, when was the last time this promotion was offered. Probably some hidden fees, like enviro. Probably why there is a push from farmers at least around my area they are using older equipment with no computer. LOL 2

Oh & these are prices for units that are used, 1 - 2yrs old. Dealers are most likely drumming up work where they can. This sounds like a good niche that they have going on. The customer has no worries about hauling their tractor to the dealership and then back home again. A great appeal towards the instant gratification that most customers seek.

JoeM 7,871 #9 Posted August 25, 2020 A friend of mine had his own mower repair service. He offered it to me when he retired. You can make money, that's for sure. Overhead is an issue, insurance, trucks, tools, inventory, employees and don't forget warranty. One of his comments when asked who is your favorite costumer. I got an immediate response, "one that doesn't take care of their machine and has cash"! People just don't fix their own stuff anymore. They rather be doing something else or just don't have the knowledge or time. ?? I know one of my neighbors bought a new bad boy zero turn last year. It was two months old when it went down, ignition issue. He tried for two weeks to get a warranty mechanic to come out. I turned around one day and he was standing there next to me. I said, what up? He told me about the mower and asked for help. Turns out that both ignition coils opened. I figure he snapped it off one day and it got a spike of sorts. ? Two new coils and fired right up. He was so fed up he paid out of pocket for the coils and was glad to have it running. 1

JAinVA 4,619 #11 Posted August 26, 2020 (edited) Pure Simplistic BS.by some. JoeM has a better take on the price issue. When you add up all the costs, insurance, labor cost, unemployment insurance, state and local licence fees lights, rents service, vehicle costs, maintenence, state and local income taxes, etc.Run your own business with these loads and $300.00 might be just to break even. Mickwhitt 4,589 #12 Posted August 26, 2020 Im just tinkering with mowers and it can be a pain, "that mower you fixed the blade on, the handle dropped off, must be your fault, fix it for free" I will leave business to business minded folk, I don't have the temperament for it. John Deere parts are expensive but I guess all original parts are when we are used to cheap copies being a third of the price. I used to work in an industrial sewing factory (loooooong story) and the Union Standard machine parts were very expensive, but the Chinese copies were poor quality, lasted much less and gave more down time. But the management insisted on buying the cheap parts. Penny wise, pound foolish we call it. Mick
bds1984 1,429 #14 Posted August 29, 2020 Dang. I'm in the wrong business then. My mom has a GT235, also, which has over 2,000 trouble-free hours on it. Outside of basic maintenance, I've only replaced the voltage regulator, tie-rod, and transmission drive belt (twice and it is a complete pain). It has been a very reliable machine for the last twenty-one years. How has yours been?
