WHX??

I'll go the other way on this fellas but I have slapped trannies back together with more play than that and abused the snot out of them with no problems. BUT that was back then before I knew about this shimming business. Now that I know about it ...yeah I will probaly do it if I remember! :)

Its probably the best or better idea not to shift on the fly tho or having a good belt stopping clutch.

Dan threw a 3rd gear back in a tranny we both thought to be good but guess what ...yep it's gotta come back apart some day,. Pops out. Soooo maybe some shimming may have done the trick ...maybe not but I bet @Achto checks the end play and considers doing it it next comes apart.

It's not a cure all guys. It's just a little detail that hit me at some point. It probably woke me up one night and I couldn't get it out of my head. You wouldn't believe how much crap I get for this type of thinking.  About 75% from Nancy. :hide:

Thanks @Racinbob i know it's hard to imagine there would be anything weak about a wheel horse...but i think that it lasted 54 years i should be OK for another 50 now :wh: here she is

Looks great Gordy.  I know it is too late now, but to answer your question about a shim under the bull gear.  I think you meant to say mushroom gear.  If there was a shim under the mushroom gear when you opened the transmission, then you would want to put it back.  I would not add one otherwise.

I think Bob got the idea to shim the input gear while we were doing that thread about saving the 3 piece transmissions...#5003 & #5010.  The 3 piece transmissions always have a little more slop in them...it's the nature of the beast...and probably why Wheel Horse went to the 2 piece transmissions.  :eusa-think:  :occasion-xmas:

WHX??

Looks very nice :handgestures-thumbupright:

I should have mentioned this earlier and a little late now.  I don't know if you have the tools to do it but I always add a second drain plug ahead of the hump to get the oil out of there when changing fluids. I also go to magnetic drain plugs that I make myself.

WHX??

Yeah I know they have them Paul but where's the fun in just buying them! :)

Just take a hardware store 1/4" pipe plug drill a 1/8" hole in the end and JB weld a cheap ebay round magnet in them
