Looking for info on the C-175

Finally found a picture of one of my tractors that had a decent enough angle to show where the ID tag is.

If I remember correctly it is a plate  that is riveted on.

Also I see you are new to the forum, so if I may offer a bit of advice that may be helpful. If you want to mention a user on the forum specifically which helps them to see the message you can put an @ symbol in front of their username and a little box will pop up as you are typing to help you select the person you are trying to mention and it will look like this @Mike e.

@Alex175that's a nice machine and I plan to do some farming with mine once I get it up and running. And that is a nice disc I might try to find one right now I'd be happy with a turning plow

Good point Paul look for the two holes, sometimes PO's take the tag off. Why I have no idea!

Both implements on my want list Mike. Do you have the three point hitch? Not sure if one could be put on a 175?

Thanks! Found that and a plow this year at just a drop dead price and couldn't pass it up.  Outside of my 2 inch receiver I didn't have any attachments for the 3 point hitch so I snagged them up.  Still have to find a nice Cat 0 grader blade though, not too many of them in the Northeast that I can find.

There's a lot of guys on here who use their Horses for plowing fields, you can find more than a few good posts on the forum about their escapades, it's cool stuff.

That's a great photo of the tag, thank you for sharing that.  Glad to know I wasn't crazy about the rivets too

Hi all!  This newbie also recently acquired an '83 C-175.  How can I tell what type the Kohler twin-cylinder 17 HP engine I have (type 1 or type 2)?  The motor serial number is 12158706 if that helps.  I noticed the previous (son-in-law of the original!) owner has it slightly overfilled with oil (if the safe range on the dipstick is about 0.75", it's about 0.75" over that).  Interestingly the hydrostatic transmission oil level is too high by the same amount.  Is this poor maintenance or on purpose?

I mainly got it to plow, and then tow a trailer up and down 7-10 degree grades in the summer.  Is there any reason not to run 10W-30 in the engine all year long?

I can't wait to dig through all these forums to learn a lot from all of you!

I just found the thread that says it is a 1982 motor.

Ah, and I just found the Kohler service  manual that defines the type 1 and type 2 (Series II) engines.  Tomorrow I'll see if that label is still on the engine.  I also found the owner's manual that says oils other than 30W will leave deposits and not burn as cleanly.  The fun begins!

Many of us run straight 30 detergent above 32°, and 10w30 below 32°.

All of our tractors on my property are older so I can't help you with yours so much but others will be along. Please feel free to start your own thread in whatever category is correct.
