Case 300 Tractor

Apparently I can't be trusted with money, especially my own,

 

The tractor runs decent, three point hitch and it has an after market auxiliary hydraulics kit. Just in front of the main transmission another gear case with high and low range then direct.

 

Love the quick connect three point.

The Case 300 is apparently rare, from 1956 - 1958, total built 249. Drove it the 20 miles to home, she never missed a beat, with the aux transmission in high range this tractor buggies.

 

With the aux transmission in low range and the main in first gear she's slower than molasses in January. If you were using the PTO for stationary work there's another lever on the aux gear box, you can put the PTO into neutral from a ground position with out disengaging the clutch.

 

Not sure if you can reengage the PTO from a ground position or if you have to climb aboard to depress the clutch pedal.

bcgold, nice pick up on that , anything with all that steel and cast iron , is more than worth the pick up,I  was also thinking about that 20 mile drive home , and the perfect opportunity to dump out that hot gear oil , those old tractors are so strong , that anything  done to them helps.  helped a guy recover a  M/T  14 J/D with 34 " tires, did a total lubrication detail and it was amazing how effortless everything worked . keep em rolling pete

Looks like your friends 311B and my 300 share the same auxiliary transmission and instrument dash, after arriving home with the tractor noticed engine coolant had discharged from the radiator filler.

 

My first though a leaking head gasket, but don't think I could be that lucky, the engine probably uses wet sleeve cylinder liners and one sleeve more than likely has a bit of porosity.

 

For ya air cooled lady's and gents a wet sleeve makes direct contact with engine coolant in the event of porosity taking place it's like haveing a tire with a slow leak. Combustion gas's from within the cylinder leak under pressure into the coolant side forcing the coolant out of the radiated.

 

Industrial engines and those used in most tractors will use either a dry or set type sleeve, the purpose of using a  sleeve makes an engine overhaul economical - you just replace the sleeve.

 

Wet sleeve are a direct fit, easy to remove and replace while an engine with dry sleeves are a bear to remove.

 

An easy way to remove a dry sleeve, fire up the welder, starting at the bottom of the sleeve make a spiral weld as you come out of the cylinder sleeve. No need for a perfect weld, gobs will do, as they cool the sleeve will shrink in size.

 

Do so at your own risk.

The foot operated clutch uses a dry disc, hand one is wet.

 

Serial number indicates my tractor is a 310, the engine is 148 cubic inches with a bore and stroke 3.375 x 4.125 which makes it an under square engine. Low RPM with loads of torque.

 

Same engine used in this sweet little Case 310C crawler.

My engine uses a wet sleeve, two common problems with this type of sleeve, porosity you'll get visible bubbles in radiator, coolant loss via overflow, o-ring failure you get coolant in the oil pan.

Needs a new battery, the current one is 6 volts.

 

Easy to change the electrical system over to 12 volts, but giving this some thought realized a 6 volt has more staying power.

 

Thoughts guys, what do you think stay with 6 or move over to 12 volts.

I bought this old feed mill about 5 years ago, stored it at the farm went over to bring the big toy home again, surprised the tires were holding air.

 

As part of the feed processing there's a PTO driven hammer mill, my use of the hammer is to feed insulated copper wire into it, the insulation will be stripped off and the copper wire beaded into balls.

Just purchased this sweet Allied snowblower, 3 hour drive, prepaid via bank transfer.

 

The discharge chute is hydraulic, perfect addition to my new to me Case 310 tractor.

Fits nicely on Dodge, who would have thought using the AC would overheat the transmission causing it to downshift from overdrive.
