giddyap 1,569 #1 Posted August 20, 2020 Again I used a Ross Steering unit from a Cub on my second WH custom. Built for wheel stands, gripping the wheel could be a matter of life or death. The tower and steering components had to be capable of holding a man as if he were hanging over a cliff. Since I don't weld I bolted on a section of frame for the tower that had the transmission plate. I had to cut down the steering column so I could use a deep quick release steering wheel. A mule pulley housing mated the column to the tower as strong as if I had welded it all together. To soften the landings I cut to size porch swing springs to replace the sections of axle I cut off. A 4" pulley on the engine and 3" on the trans makes a perfect all around 2nd gear. Third bogs down and first is too slow for me. 8 6 2

Pictures later, I can agree with Harbor Freight that a black Predator on their water pump would discourage sales. Used for any other application a Blue Predator often raises the question "what engine is that?"

The porch swing springs (2 per package for $10) are wider and thicker than need be thus restrict travel distance for a hard cushion. The compession spring size I wanted I could only find in piano wire and could not hold the weight. The right ones would create a soft landing 4

giddyap 1,569 #19 Posted August 21, 2020 The tower is the section of frame with the transmission plate. Also the Cub steering column 1 1
giddyap 1,569 #20 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) I cut and folded the fender seat pan, later removed the middle for a wider look. The rusted piece on the tower is a partial transmission plate to mount the pulley guard on. The original 6" trans pulley is on the engine. I used a 4" pulley. Cubs use the yellow triangle plate to hang foot rest rods. I use them everwhere and cub foot rests Edited August 21, 2020 by giddyap additional info 1 1

giddyap 1,569 #22 Posted August 21, 2020 Two events worth mentioning. I exhanged the original wheelie wheels for nicer but smaller ones. The next ride it goes vertical and my butt hits the driveway, immedialey i realize I did not adjust the wheelie bar stop. The other event I get stuck perfectly balanced in the vertical 00094.MTS

Just showed this to Mrs. P... “It’s just you... it’s just you in a few more years, that’s all..”. I think that’s a compliment... or a challenge to build a similar project! 1
