kpinnc 12,054 #251 Posted May 16, 2021 I'm really liking this build. Of all the things I wish I had- A backhoe is probably what I would get the most use from. Are you going to add outriggers? I've heard that lots of "D series" tractors broke rear axles if owners didn't use them. I would assume that using a backhoe would put some serious strain on most any axles.
Tractorhead 9,064 #252 Posted May 16, 2021 I planed a heavier Rectangle pipe below the Mount with two 90 deg. welded on Pipes in down order. In this two pipes on the sides it will have sliding posts they can be lifted or dropped by Hand to release the Rearaxle. For the interlock i just will use simply a pin arrester like i did it on the Rear Beam in 2 or 3 different heights. Because of the Rear 3 Point on the Beast, that is imho a simple and useful option to destress the rearaxle while working and even they will secure the whole Tracta from moving away while working. If i must move the Tracta to onother place, simply lift up the 3Point and move, if i be on the next Workplace drop it down and work. I believe that is a quick and useful solution. Btw. The Rearaxle is able to carry 1,5To at all with it‘s 2“ diameter Rearaxle. I had no weakpoint even with my selfmade rearfork, that carries the 475Kilo heavy Agave easily 2 Km without any troubles along the Road from another Shed where we had put it in the last years over Winter.
Tractorhead 9,064 #253 Posted May 16, 2021 Still a lot of things to do until this build is final... Today i got a freshly hunted deer from Mart‘l. Still the best and honest meat, we prepared it and put it in the Freezer. Than i go into the Workshop to continue a little the build. i drilled the Mainhole for the wrist up to 15mm after that i installed a Zerk fitting for the Ellbow. To finalize that joint, i switched to the Lathe and make myself a Bolt for the C- Clamp. than i mount the Ellbow in follow order C clamp, washer, Arm, Teflon washer, ellbow, teflon washer, arm Washer, C Clamp. Enough for today.

Tractorhead 9,064 #255 Posted May 17, 2021 If you plan to build a own Backhoe, 3 important Rulez... 1. if you build a heavy Backhoe, work carefully step by step. 2. If things fall, never try to catch it with bare hands, especially if it is heavier than 70Kilos - Man it‘s made of Steel it just bashes on the Ground. 3. Don‘t cry if you fingers are beyond, scream the Bad F*** word as loud as you can... and continoue the Work. Yap - So i did today... I begun with the Rearmount Baseplate. Drilled 4 M12 Holes in her. Than get 2 Angleirons 50x50 5mm thick and drill the 4 M10 Holes for the Rearmount Frame. Drill the Rearmount Frame up to 22mm for the bottom 3Point Pins. Grind the Paint of from the Rearmount Frame for Welding. Cut 2x a 3 cm piece from a Pipe 5mm thick and put it under the Screwed Pin. Weld the pipes onto the Rearmount Frame to enstiffning and support the Load‘s later. Screw the Angleirons on the Rearmount. Put all on the Floor and Weld the Rearmount Baseplate on the Angleirons. Now the Rearmountframe can be brought to the Tracta the first time. I Give the Welds a second Layer ontop, to englarge the welded Material and give it hopefully a bigger ripforce. Weld a piece of Pipe into the Mainbearing of the Beam to improve also here the stability. now you can install the main Beam the first time. Insert the Bearing bolt and after that the arresterbolt. Carefully, that beast weights app. 70 Kilos now. If you remove by an oops the Arresterbolt while inserting the Beam cylindre, jump simply aside and don‘t try to catch the Arm... Especially if it drops onto the old Black&Decker Workmate - watch your fingers.. Believe me, i know where i talking about.. 😎 A first impression after the loud screamed bad F*** Word. an impression how wide the arm reaches in maximum lifted Position of the 3 Point Rear lift. Wristjoint goes to 2,20m maximum reachable height. Clearance of the Beam to the floor 18 cm( appears smaller in the Pict) Cooooool😎 Again back to the arrested Position. view thoughts for the upper link of the 3 Point but no final decision is taken for now. dang, time is running out... a day should have 48h....
Tractorhead 9,064 #256 Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) Babooom... As every Tuesday we must test us ourself for Covid. My test today show‘s positive result, so i must go to a official Testcenter. They told me i must stay at home until tomorrow afternoon until i get my result and stay in quarantine until the Testresult is out. Ok, so now i feel healthy, except the Allergy i have every year. Quarantine huh - cool - i have a perfect place for Quarantine - Workshop time... Closed the Door nobody can go in so i‘m allone. At 11:00 i begin with the Daily doings. Firstly i build the upper 3 Point lever mount. Than i cutted out 2 side an Angle to get the needed Gap on the Rearsupport. After this is done, i completed the Armcylindre and it‘s mounts. The next step was the mounts for the Hand cylindre and the Bucketplatform oh Boy, that thing can reach more height than i expected. 2,305 meter is the Value. The cylindres are mounted that way, that they couldn‘t reach 100% their limits. so i have a little spare way in case of if the cylindremounts are a little worn out. I thinkering about a folding Lock to keep the Backhoe on a Distance that it wouldnt collapse. That seems the best Angles because the Bucked otherise can hit the cylindre what is not senseful. at least i disassembled the Hand and Arm and give it a little Paint to be protected. ( not the final Design).. dang i‘m in quarantine, so i‘m not allowed to go to a Friend who owns a Hydraulic Shop. So i must wait a little to order the hydraulic hoses. Edited May 18, 2021 by Tractorhead Correct height value
Tractorhead 9,064 #257 Posted May 19, 2021 While finding out my Test results, i phoned with the Testcenter to get a Number of the laboratory. They told me i must wait for a mail or phonecall because of privacy Rules.... Hum.... Ok, than i used the time in between to go forward with my Backhoe Project. i begin with the Manufacturing the Bucket. Grab a bigger U Profile 180x500mm 5 mm thick and Cut it in Shape.. Than i fold it and weld it together. the Basic is made, than i cutted the edge on the digging side and sharpened it. At least i primer it. than i make myself 2 Bolts for the Arm cylindre. the Bolt is 19mm drilled two holes in to use a spring bolt as secure. quickmount made by myself. First test if it‘s fits. Finally 2 Washers will close the outsides but they must be ordered because no have. After that is finalized, i choose my Paintscheme and begin the Paint. The black on the Arm is Hammerite, can be used directly on Steel without preparing much, because it have an primer and rustprevention in. That is the same Paint, i used allready on my FEL Project. Ok, let‘s paint the Cylindres. the Color of Warning is Red and Yellow right? Ok, i choosed firstly Red RAL3003 for the Cylindres, because it is my Color and i have it aside. The beam gets another Paintschema. So far i think it looks dang hot until now. a first impression of the Bucket on the Backhoe. Step by step the Build gets forward... The sidewalls of the Bucket will be made later because i have few thoughts about but i will check firstly if they make sense. At least few picts of the joints...
Tractorhead 9,064 #258 Posted May 19, 2021 Disassembled the Whole construct to build a Massive Joint for the main link. i don’t wanna any play in it, so i must make my own Bolt from an old Latheshaft i build several years ago. It is made of Chromesteel dang hard and the absolute limit or better close to a rape for my Minilathe. I take a lot of time and lap it fine until it fit‘s snug. than i made 2 Washers, they fit also close to the whole Bolt.all with minimum needed gap. To get the bolt in i use a reamer 20mm H7. the Bolt fits snug and have absolute no play. I measured the dimensions to allign as close as possible. After that step is done i give the Baseplatform a complete degreasing and a Primer coat and a little Paint. The bad was i‘m running out of Paint, but i have ordered allready several Bottles. so i painted the Areas, where i can Cover and give it few hours to cure. Inbetween i checked every hour my mail for the Testresult - nothing until now... After the Paint is cured so far that i can touch it without Damages i give all joints zerk fittings. The last action today was the complete rebuild it was a little fight to get the Mainbeam into it‘s joint, but it is absolutely playfree. Tight but easy to move. i be happy with that result. 1 3 1

So i had lost 2 day‘s Holiday‘s because of this ***** Test. What a week, it‘s the Week of Bad news..... i was sure i be free of Covid, but after that quicktest shows a positive result, the Company wants me to go to a Official Testcenter because you can‘t never know. That was the first bad news in this Week, the second was the Big Show this year is also still a nono for me... 🤨 I‘m definitively no amused about that. At least the „Hydraulic hoseman“ calls me back, he still wait for Fittings, because the last delivery is still missing, so he needs the few he had for Emergency purposes. - i know about him he is a upright and honest guy and make a great job. He is allway‘s fair and make fair prices, so i agree to that. delayed is not interrupted. 3
Tractorhead 9,064 #263 Posted May 23, 2021 Because on Friday i got little Gravel.. The Beast help me save ma Back. There is still a lot of handmade Job. this was the first working Day sine i begun the Backhoe Project. While ho hydraulic hoses be available it acts just as Counterweight. but it looked pretty Cool. Than on Sa at about 10:00 the Paint arrived, so i can continue a little bit on the Backhoe But Firstly the Horse got it‘s Seat time, because today is a May prayer from the traditional costume association. So even the Mayor comes to our village, there all should look clean and nice for that Event. Firstly i mowed my Areals and let still a little untouched meadows for the Bees. Than Mat’l an me picked our Trimmer and walk arround the whole Areal and clean out the Edges and after that pict arround the Agave. I still decide to use again the Side discharge covers open because of lot‘s of rain the Day‘s before, the grass was still little too Wet for mulching, but the Horse did it‘s job great. I while mowing i played a little with the Throttlesettings and found the best Engine RPM for a clean cut will be between 2700 and 2900 RPM now with the little Larger pulley. The Predator grunts nicely and still worked without stalling. the releveled Entry to the Barn with the Gravel was a good idea, so i the Mowerdeck no more touches the ground while liften when i moved in or out of the Barn. Before it touches gently the edge of the Exit. I let sit the Horse outside the Barn, while i want doing the Paintjob because there was a little Sun yesteday. The Horse needs urgently a Pressurewash after that Tasks, but the Mowerdeck still has nearly no grass under it in compare to the sideway’s closed Deck. I need urgently the Watertank filled to Pressurewashing the Horse after such Work. After all that was Done i go and checked my Paintschema. I taped the Areas on the Backhoe who needed Painted. The yellow Paint i ordered was a real pain for me, much too thin and a worse content of Pigments. A real bad Decision i took, but my other seller was out of „Rapsgelb“ yellow how the paint is named. For that little Yellow you can see i needed all 4 Rattlecans i ordered emptied on 20 passes. My other Paintbrand took just 3 passes in 1/6 of the needed time but However. Now several Tasks still must be done. build the Side tilting mechanism and mount the Hydraulic Cylindre to it’s final place, get the Hosings and install them, construct the outtrigger mount. I planed the outtrigger Beam with the ability for changeable Tyres, to move the backhoe arround even if it was not mounted on the Tracta. For the Hydraulics i thinkering between two options. Option 1 is a self propellered own Hydraulic System attached on the Rear PTO to be independent of the Tracta. The dis here is that the Gearbox with the hydraulic pump comes that close to the PTO that i must remove each time the Trailerhitch to be able to Work. A uncomfortable way to go. Option 2 is using the allready installed Hydraulic Pump on the Tracta with 2 Quick mounts on the Tracta‘s rear End. but they don‘t exists and the Attaching is dang close. I have to see how i can do this. For the moment i like to choose the option2, because the Engine still must running when the Backhoe is in use. so the simplest will be the Option2 with the plus i can later still adapt the external Hydraulic pump option even simpler with the Hydraulic quick connectors, so on this option i be more flexible later. at least the Horse get into the Barn as the first needed machine. 2
Maxwell-8 4,275 #264 Posted May 23, 2021 How did you register your iseki? Did it come with papers? Trying to register my WH haha I know it can be done in (some states) in the US and it used to be possible here in Belgium, but things have changed and so i don't know if it's still possible. Ich frage mich, wie das Gesetz bei unseren Nachbarn aussieht.
Tractorhead 9,064 #265 Posted May 23, 2021 It was relativ simple. The basis here was, i have the complete purchase Documents of the Tracta, the written confirm from Iseki that it was made in 1976 validated by it‘s Serialnumber. At least i get the Customs declaration and a Questionaire i cleared up before with the TÜV- our local Safety Organisation. I must make the complete rework to European standarts on Lights. The registration was littlebit more simple after a compared registration allready exists. The good Thing additionally was, that a Tracta have no need for low emission for now, otherwise a registration is completely impossible. Only on Tractas here a registration is less complicated, but for how long, knowbody knows. To get a Wheelhorse here Streetlegal i believe it will be a little more complicated.
elcamino/wheelhorse 9,297 #266 Posted May 23, 2021 @Maxwell-8& @Tractorhead As far as I know there are no registration requirements for our beloved W/H tractors . We use them and drive them . We can not legally operate on the roads , but I have never been stopped. Laughed at , waved at and even gotten a thumbs up. Who wants to mess with an old bald head man drive a Wheel Horse down the street ?

Who wants to mess with an old bald head man drive a Wheel Horse down the street ? I have seen people in maine register their mower/ horses as ATV's. But here in Belgium they are strict, even electric bicycles for speeds below 30mph need registration, even my Solex that has a top speed off 15Mph needs it. Now I have driven my horse on the road, but don't really like taking big risk getting my horse impounded. @Tractorhead Do you also have insurance?
Tractorhead 9,064 #268 Posted May 23, 2021 Yap, the Iseki is insured at a Unimog Insurance company. That is common to use it onroad here, liable up to 1.5 million for personal injuries. No wercking insurance for myself, just for others. That drops the cost down to 35 bucks a year. So i be allowed to ride onroad as long as i like, what makes for some purposes less sense because of the max. speed. But when i went to the Grasscut Dump i must ride along a Road for about 5 KM. than another about 1 Km Offroad. Impossible to drive there with the Car because of the mostly to swampy driveway but my both Tractas (the Horse and the Iseki) be able to manage that easily. i did this ride also few times with the Wheelhorse, but in case now Police come along, i can with the Iseki ride straight my Way On the Horse i may get in troubles as long as it was not registered.
Achto 27,575 #269 Posted May 23, 2021 (edited) In Wisconsin one of these (Slow Moving Vehicle sign) hung on the back makes it legal to operate any piece of farm equipment on the road at a speed under 40kph, as long as there is not a minimum posted speed limit. UTV's can also be operated on the road for farm purposes if you have one of these signs on the back and keep your speed down. I have never investigated it but I would think that an SMV sign would clear a garden tractor as well. Edited May 23, 2021 by Achto
Tractorhead 9,064 #270 Posted May 25, 2021 A little step to finalize the first Digging. what will i need to Dig - yap a Bucket. yes, i build one, but my plan for a Quickchanger platform is delayed. i keep the Platform but i changed the build of my Bucket. i like to did it my Way, to see if i find a simple Solution that Works. So firstly i get my new Drillpress and drilled 2 16mm holes in. Than i build a new Bolt, 2 spaces made of Brass, a Spacer made of Steelpipe 1/2“ what fits perfectly. than i tap it into the Arm and enstiffned so the joint points in the Arm against pressing it together of heavier Force. Two welded Mounts will be later the Lever for the Hydraulic Cylindre. all is made of Trash metal 8mm thick. that should last i hope. than i do the first movements by hand, to see it‘s maximum reachable Area. 2,54 40 is the maximum distance i can spread it out to Dig. and this is the Angle after close the Bucket. i know there still no Sidewalls on it now, they come later. It appears, that my Plan will work - did i say Plan? Hahaha, i have no plan, all is existing in my Mind, no detailed technical Drawings for now, just a few checkups for Lever calculations and few calculations about the Movement where shortly checked on the PC. nice how close the bucket will work. The black mount on the Bottom of the Arm is for a later Thumb if needed. Pulling the Dirt back to the Base lifted in Working condition and the Transport situation. To finalize i ordered 2 Quickconnectors, few Pipings, and than i need to mount the Dragbar and the Lever system. Hope i get my hoses soon, i like to play with that build asap.
Tractorhead 9,064 #271 Posted May 29, 2021 Few steps been done. firstly a Workmate visits me, to get his Solar system connected. That finalizes his Electric system i build for his mini RV he made by himself. Than i switched over to the Backhoe. Grinding partially the Paint off and welded the Lever for the Swing hydraulics on. it wasn‘t forgotten, but i thinkering a lot how to build. Today i ttake my decision, if i‘m right or wrong the future will be shown. Than repaint it again. I just have to find out the perfect place for the Cylindre mount point. That means measure and try and measure and try... I decided to build today a Valveblock mounting Bracket made from 5 mm Steel and cut it in Shape with the Bandsaw. To solve this, i tested out if and how exact i can cut edges from bigger Steelplate, it works better than i feared. I love that little Bandsaw, it’s a nice but extremely useful Tool, completely underestimated as i find. And much less mess compared to cut Steel with a Suicide blade on the Grinder. With the grinder i smoothened it all down a little after rough cutting and welded it together with a mountingplate, i had from a Sprinter (3mm thick) This whole mounting bracket is just Scewed with 2 M16 Bolts onto the Main mounting Block. What enstiffned also the complete Rearmount for the 3 Point a little more. That thin appears to be a Tank.. Than i welded the lower Bar on the Rearmount as a Resting Bar while working. When the rear Hydraulic is released, it sits completely on the Floor. But that thing becomes step by step heavier.... The quickrelease ansered with a loud - Whack - when it hits the floor. I checked to reuse any of the Hydraulic hoses, i have from the 212 FEL to connect the Backhoe Bucket Cylindre. It fit‘s closely, few cm more will be a wish, but for now it works and i can solve hook that issue. I checked the Routing path how to route the hydraulic hoses without go in any troubles with existing Things. I made few Mounting brackets just in case i need them, to give the Hydraulic hoses a little more stable mount point and decided to keep the hoses on the right side. Here i have much more clearance for the Hydraulic lines and the Swing cylindre doesn’t affect me. The Day for the first testdrive come closer and closer. I just have to reorder few hydraulic components, i decided to change.
Tractorhead 9,064 #272 Posted June 4, 2021 Chakka! The first Corona rules are falling and we get step by step the freedom back. But this year‘s Big show was definitely impossible sadly. So i do my Honeydo work and after it begins to rain i switched over to the Backhoe. Finalized the Swing mount and Painted it. including the Cylindre. While i wait that the cylindre cures, i see the Powersteering pump from the old white Astra. This pump delivers 90Bar pressure, that should work and i decided to give it a Try. I love the old Astra technic, because not too much Electronics a simple straight forward Car. Plus minus and two switched plus wires and the Pump starts. Pressuregauge shows me it just delivers 40Bar and i decided to disassemble it. i found some dirt in her from a gone gasket and clened her completely. Than i changed the O- ring and give her a Try. She screams a little but shows again fully 98Bar on the Pressuregauge. - Success - at least i drain the complete system and give it a complete Cleanup. This pump needs 12V 50A maximum on full pressure. That should be enough for a Testdrive if - yes if i got finally my Hydraulic Hoses i need now urgently. so maybe the Backhoe can maybe used with a bigger Generator Attached via a Mule drive. Bur firstly it must passes some Tests- and i need the Hoses... 1
Tractorhead 9,064 #273 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Get yesterday a pair of the Hydraulic hoses, Today i quickly mount the few i have now, the sideswing hoses and 2 others are delayed. That doesn‘t matter, i wanna see if it works, so i closed the line between the Swing cylindres, filled the whole system with Hydraulic Fluid and bleed it. While Max was curious when he hears the powersteering pump and what‘s happen So i bleeded the System and check if my Backhoe will do anything as i mentioned, he grabs my phone and make a short Vid of what‘s happen. Yap, i know this pump give a noisy sound, but it works. I just have no regulation of the Pressure so i just can rev her up to max. Fluidflow than she regulated on the Force electronic the max Speed. But for a testdrive - yap i would say Success. wait for the rest of the ordered Parts to finalize. Edited June 9, 2021 by Tractorhead
