Mickwhitt 4,607 #1 Posted August 19, 2020 Hi all. Got my new tractor mower home yesterday. Its a John Deere LX277 in good nick. Hour meter says 233.7 x 1/10 So is that 23 hours of actual running ? T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #2 Posted August 19, 2020 233 hours and 42 minutes. The LX200 series were the industry's top of the line lawn tractor for that era - late 90s to early 2000s. They had the same frame as JDs GT series, and used the K62 transmission and had commercial grade engines. Some had liquid cooling. bottjernat1 2,190 #4 Posted August 19, 2020 That is pretty low hours. Here is my newest deere. It was my late dads got it on an insurance claim. Some folks stole stuff to a 318 deere and the insurance company couldnt replce that stuff because of its age. So my dad paid his deductable $200 and got this sweet ride. its a 2010 x540 with a 48 inch deck,47 2 stage snow blower and tiller. it just turned 201.1 hours on sunday. I just power washed it. I use my daughters 1969 electro 12 to mow it does just as good of a job if not better because i bought NOS blades for her wheelhorse from jake kuhn. Dont get me wrong This deere is a sweet ride tho. There are john deere tractors over here, probably more so than wheelhorse models. This is air cooled but a vee twin engine, 17 hp so plenty of grunt. wfrpalm 218 #7 Posted August 20, 2020 I bought a 277 new and it has been mostly trouble free. A few years back the hydro unit would over heat within minutes of it running and it turned out all the blades on the fan were missing. How they broke off and where they went is a mystery. Mickwhitt 4,607 #8 Posted August 23, 2020 Just moved her into the machine shop ready to start checking her over and servicing her. Not much room around her but I'm taking the grass collector off as we will just be mowing and mulching. I'll service the engine first but I have no knowledge of the auto transmission. Should I drain and fill with fresh oil? Is there a filter or any transmission service items I need to replace or address. Mickwhitt 4,607 #9 Posted August 23, 2020 What plastic restorer do you guys recommend? Im looking for something to improve the look of the vinyl on the steering wheel and the dash trim. I've given her a good clean and all looks well. A few rust bubbles under the paint which I can tidy up in due course. The manual says do not drain the transmission oil, just top it up. Mickwhitt 4,607 #10 Posted August 25, 2020 I looked at different makes of plastic treatments and best one is supposed to be Meguires which is American I think. Bought a bottle and it does make a really good job of restoring plastic. The steering wheel was pretty discoloured and this stuff made it look really black. D_Mac 8,607 #11 Posted August 25, 2020 One thing that I would recommend is a front bumper. Not sure if they make one for that tractor or not. Anytime I see a plastic hood and grill I see if there is a front bumper available. I put this one on a Craftsman I had.
