My garage sale finds this year!!

So I have been going garage saling since last year. And my wife was totally against it till she started finding stuff for our girls and grand baby. Anyways here are 2 items i bought dirt cheap. This old sears/craftsman kerosene can and a lawn-boy that is oil and gas seperate. I didnt know they made a push mower like this. I got it running but only for a couple seconds. I took the carb off and it was beyond fixing. It is by far the worst looking carb ever! So i bought a newone should be here before the weekend. I did pretty good i thought. $2 for the can and $15 on the pushmower. I did change the oil and sharpened the blade on the lawn-boy just waiting on the carb now. What crazy garage sale finds have you all ran into this year?

I grabbed this Toro lawn tractor from the FREE pile. 48" cut, 20hp Kohler single cylinder engine, 296hrs on the clock. If it's free you don't ask, right?? When I got it home I figured out why it was free.  #1 - Either mice chewed a hole into the side of the block or #2 - It had thrown a rod. :eusa-think: Turns out that it was #2. Did some research, found out that this Kohler engine is known for this issue after the block cracks by the motor mounts & the oil runs out. New Kohler short block was too expensive ($500+) plus why repeat the issue. I replaced the whole engine with a  Loncin 18.75hp $420 to my door. The only alteration that I had to do was to re-index the mounting flange on the exhaust head pipe. Total of 5hrs work into the tractor including top to bottom clean up. Sold it in less than 2hrs after completion & put a few bucks in my tractor fund.:)

Mmm.. the venerable LB Silver Series. Shunned by the purists. That's a Tecumseh engine.. Good little mower but not as loveable as the 2 stroke .. IE, balky, noisy, and smokey.. haha.

Before I saw the photo i thought you were talking about a Model M Lawn Boy.. those were 2 cycle with separate gas and oil tanks, they were oil injected like a modern snowmobile..

Not much for yard sales this year in Maine.. too many nervous I suppose.

Though funny enough I did drop by one on my way to work today and saved this elderly little GE Vacuum.. I'm a sucker for early vacuums .. no pun intended .. and own several, amongst other appliances..

I love garage sales..... Got the Simplicity at a garage sale. He only wanted 25 bucks for it, but after he saw how hard I had to work to get it into my truck he gave it to me. All 4 tires were flat and coming off the rims. Couldnt bring my truck to the tractor. I had to drag it about 70 yards to the street. then get it up ramps into my truck with all 4 tires coming off.

Got the Troy - Bilt rototiller and the Snapper 2 cycle snow thrower for 40 bucks at another sale.

Yard sales this year? Hasn't the govt made it illegal to sell your belongings to strangers and friends at a discounted price from your home without a license while not collecting sales tax and said it was for Charmin-getton/ beer flu?

Anyways.i can't say I've been to one lately but I did hit a junk shop a few weeks back. Found this for $25
