Ron Vander Tuuk 4 #1 Posted August 16, 2020 I am new at this game and have a B 100 automatic with a problem. It has set for a long time outside. I got it running and you can drive it for 15 minuets or so, put it in park and it won't go. If you move the lever back and forth and roll the tractor some it will go. Then you can drive it all around. any suggestions?
Ed Kennell 38,638 #2 Posted August 16, 2020 Check all the easy items. Is there clean oil (amber) or ATF (pink) in the hydro to the proper level? Is the idler / tension pulley engaging the hyro? Is the hydro pulley actually turning and turning the hydro input shaft? Are the set screws tight on both axle hubs? Is the tow valve closed properly? Go to the manuals section and search for your tractors manual. to the The Sundstrand Hydro experts should be here soon to help. 1
JoeM 7,874 #3 Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) Ron those B100's have a parking paw inside of the transmission that engages some gear teeth when you raise the belt disengage lever to park. Sounds like the paw is not releasing when you are engaging the belt. Need to check the linkage under the drive belt cover. Take the cover off and work the linkage and see if there is anything sticking on the outside of the transmission. Edited August 16, 2020 by JoeM
Ron Vander Tuuk 4 #4 Posted August 16, 2020 Thanks for the suggestions. I will give that a look. The tow valve is frozen. Started spaying it. Might take a while to break loose.
pfrederi 17,866 #5 Posted August 16, 2020 When you look at her as you pull the engage lever up (red circle) make sure the parking brake arm (blue) moves and goes back when you lower the engagement lever. Also look at the bottom of the pin (yellow) The brake arm can wear a groove in the pin so it doesn't move the brake bar as far as it should 1
oliver2-44 9,858 #6 Posted August 17, 2020 We love pictures I'm no hydro expert, but when you pull the covers off send these guys pictures of the side linkage and the top linkage. I'm amazed at what some of these guys can spot in a picture. Be patient and keep spraying that tow valve. It took quite a while for the valve on my C-160 to free up, but it did.

Moving the lever when in'Park' ...then "roll the tractor some...it will go" My comment: With the Parking Brake lever DOWN, pushing the motion control lever forward / back should cause the tractor to move in that selected direction. If not, then I would first suspect that the Friction Control Rod TAB Weld may be broken on the left side of the Hoodstand...it may look like this: (NOTE...this pic also shows how to replace a broken return spring with an external fix.)
Ron Vander Tuuk 4 #8 Posted August 17, 2020 Sorry I wasn't clear enough on that. What happens is when I stop and pull the park brake and then push the Brake lever off it will not move..After moving it back and forth a little and Moving the shift lever it will go and drive. It won't not move until I pull the brake lever and then push it back. Hope that makes it a little clearer. .
daveoman1966 3,762 #9 Posted August 17, 2020 (edited) So many things could be wrong: Broken weld on tab as I mentioned, wrong belt, missing or worn-out control linkage involving the Parking Brake Pawl (pfrederi), or something with the Cam & Follower..(A and B.)... they often wear out. OR... Maybe a broken frame plate. Look at the frame where it bolts to the transmission...under the tractor. VERY often this plate is cracked or broken and that will lead to many issues...must be fixed. Edited August 17, 2020 by daveoman1966 1
Ron Vander Tuuk 4 #10 Posted August 20, 2020 Checked the pin on the brake and had a deep groove in it. Welded it up. Got the tow valve freed up. Shimmed up some of the sloppy linkage. I checked the frame and it looked good [no cracks] in it. Brake in the transmission is working properly. I am starting to understand a little how this is supposed to work. Next question. Going to change oil. Someplace in here I read about maybe having to prime it after a oil change. Just wondering what that involves. It has motor oil in it now and I was wondering if synthetic oil is any advantage. I really appreciate the help you have given me.
