NC Earthquake!

Did any of you folks down here in the Va/NC/SC/TN area get to take a ride on the 5.1 quake yesterday morning? It was my first- was up at the weekend place/Wheel Horse stables, 50 miles from the epicenter, still in bed and half asleep. Bed started shaking and almost felt like the house was moving side to side, and there was a rumble like a distant locomotive or thunder. Thought I was dreaming and sat up, nope, still shaking and rumbling. this went on for exactly 10 seconds, not California style dishes flying/fridge falling over violence, but certainly a 'what the hell is that?' attention getter. Luckily no damage found, but closer to the epicenter, some roads cracked and heaved, lost a water main, and stuff bounced off the shelves at the local Food Lion. They took a good ride up there.

Considering what 2020 has thrown at us all so far, I kinda figured to look out the window and see Godzilla burning down the neighbors house or something. Did anyone have 'earthquake' on their 2020 bingo card for August?

What a story, Scott!  I’ve always wanted to feel an earthquake.  Call me crazy, but it’s a bucket list item for me!  A few years back (5?) I was finishing a basement and had a big load of drywall in my truck at the Home Depot loading zone.  Right then, the starter quit.  I was on the ground under the loaded truck for about 20 minutes banging on the starter, wiggling wires, whatnot while my young teenage brother in-law was trying the key.  We got it fired up and we’re on our way back to the job site.  Got there, the lady was talking about all this shaking and rumbling and low and behold MI had an earthquake!  If that dang truck would have resisted the starting effort just moments more, I could have been laying on the blacktop to feel the whole thing!

Aw man, that sucks that you just missed it! It was a bucket list item for me too, and was interesting to say the least. Not really scary, it was more exciting. The 'shake' is very odd, not like anything I've felt before, and others who have experienced them say the same. It is a 'rumbly' type shake, and almost felt like it was moving side to side or circular. Really messes with the mind because the eyes cant focus on or process anything because everything is moving.

I believe in ghosts and am a believer that renovating a home can sometimes upset the spirits and bring them out. I have done a lot of renovating and no ooga boogas so far, but if this had happened at 3am, I probably would have ran through the wall to get outside, and not gone back:lol:

I remember that one. Hit during the World Series. 1989. I remember it because I made Chevrolet Master Technician that year and a leather Chevy jacket was one of the prizes. It was coming from a shop in Frisco and I remember my boss saying my jacket is buried somewhere on the West coast.

@DougC here's my Louie Chevrolet statue from that year.

We have felt some tremors from small earthquakes that come up KC way from down in OK. They say fraking doesn't cause them, but not sure I believe it!!

We didn't get much of a tremor here in western NC. I was in the bathroom at the time and my wife figured I was just passing gas!           :ROTF:

I have a long standing reputation for being gassy and proud of it. The first message sent to friends was "that was not me!"
