oliver2-44 9,699 #1 Posted August 10, 2020 Saw this on Clist for $40. The seller said he bought it new and it had always been garage kept. Rarely used it, so it needed to go...worked for me. It cost me lunch to have a family member pick it up about 4 hours from me and pony express it to the shed at the farm. I made it to the farm and retrieved it. I plan to keep it original and shine it up. The WH decal on the front is original and in great shape. Those white rims in the picture also look to be original paint with a healthy dose of grease. I'm amazed at how black the tires are with just wiping the dust off them. The back lip has a slight bend, but really not bad. In time I have an idea of how to press press it straight with some pipe and clamps. It has the front WH decal and I can see on the tongue where a metal model tag had probable been, no serial $. There also is a spot on the side where some other decal had been. The inside bottom of the cart is rusted, but very little pitting. I'm thinking about scrubbing the rust area with an SOS pad, then some polishing compound. I may clear coat the inside of the tub to keep it clean for hauling the grand kids around (Nannie said no rusty clothes). As you can see in the last picture, the grand kids (and I) enjoyed putting a couple of miles on it today. I guess there's really no way of putting an age on this! Some of you may remember I previously picked up this "Lifted WH Tub Cart" about 2 years ago. So far I've kept it original. But it always felt a little tipsy when I hauled the kids around. Now I'll have to decide its fate! 5 5
peter lena 8,583 #2 Posted August 10, 2020 oliver 2-44 , lucky you ! I would love to find one of those , take advantage of your hot dry weather and give that cart a thorough spray down with penetrating oil , to enhance its patina and stop further rusting. i would guess that its a 60,s era cart , lucky grandpa to be towing the kids around , pete
oliver2-44 9,699 #3 Posted August 10, 2020 @AMC RULES Im interested in doing your style of patina polish using Mothers Mag and Wheel Polish. Do you use an orbital buffer? If so what type of pads do you use? Any other tips you can share?
peter lena 8,583 #4 Posted August 10, 2020 oliver2-44 , I initially light penetrating oil down just about anything i get , just to feed the paint and recover from the grunge / neglect effect. don,t use a pad till i go to the 6 " orbital buffer , with a cleaning wax . what i have found is that the spray oil , has a good recovery rate on dull faded paint , I also go at the paint in stages, never intending to get an instant change to glowing paint. probably a couple of weeks of oil moisture on faded paint has the best results , i really do think it feeds into the paint, then i wipe down and use a deep cleaner like meguiars with a 6" palm buffer , if that pulls out the paint , then i use a cream top wax with palm buffer, looks like fresh paint . the mag and wheel polish is too harsh for regular paint. the new meguiars CERAMIC DETAILER , is a fantastic finish coat, pete
