Which side is up and which side is down?

Starting to put the sunstrand  back together and I've been looking at manuals and diagrams and trying to figure out if there is a top and a bottom side.Here are two pics.

That's the only picture I have of a partially disassembled Sundstrand. Does that help?

Just a little fuzzy but it might help. I probably should've taken pictures before I tore everything apart . Duh ! 
starting to put in all the O-rings seals gaskets and such and get a little paint on it. I don't plan on painting the Pump housing. I like the aluminum look plus paint might hold in heat

I confirm...Short fins go down.  Here is a pic. 

BEFORE you bolt up the hyd pump, make CERTAIN that the Charge Pump Housing is properly oriented.   See 2nd pic.

Get some assembly lube in there too.   I used RED lube...

Thanx Dave! Im also having issues 

with the Excelerator valves going in. I can't seem to screw the cap in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes l have all in line and cant get it to thread up for some reason.

No reason for it not to fit if it is together right.  My pics above are a bit misleading but here is how the valve s/b assembled.

I seat the cone sleeve with a wooden dowel to make sure it is all the way in  The O rings need to be lubed ..  then the cone valve nail and springs go in.  Pre assemble the matched piston and bore. More O ring lube

I just figured out that this O-ring is the culprit it doesn't want to go past this O ring for some reason. I pull it off of the piston and it goes in fine

Try a touch of grease on the O ring

Then the one below that one should be a

017? Correct? The chart you have on the transmission section has it listed as a 117?

In most instances the last 3 digits of the wH /# are the dash number. so yes  #78 971017 is dash 017      #72 971018  is dash 018     #70  971015 is Dash 015. #69 970118 is Dash 118

 

Were it doesn't work is like #85 973310  that is dash 905

I just stopped in at Ace and

#30 was the correct size of an 018. 
stopping at O'Reilly's they don't even have a clue

OK here's another question I did manage to get this one in the hole but I had to push a little extra hard with some grease is that OK?

Yes the go in hard they have to seal.  I thought you got a kit from LJ Fluid power.  Didn't they have all the O rings???

Yes I did in the kit came complete with gaskets and seals at all. So I'm assuming that these are correct Of course they did not have any diagrams as to where they went so it was merely a process of illumination on sizes. I told LJ the transmission that I had was a 2046 and he rattled off the number that I need it right away

Hey Dave do you know the torque specs on the 10 bolts that holds the egg shaped piece on the valve body? Can't seem to find any specs anywhere?
