When Carol, my better half, was not much more than a year old, her mother gave birth to another baby girl. Due to circumstances beyond Carols mothers control, the baby girl was adopted.

A few weeks ago, one of the adopted sister's son's, after years of searching, located Carol and got in contact. After some e-mails and phone calls, we have been invited down to meet up with the extended family Carol didn't know she had.

Come Monday morning taking Carol down to South Wales, to the farm where they live. Could be an interesting and emotional couple of days.

That's awesome 😊

The same thing happened to my mum before she had all of us. I met my oldest brother for the first time when I was 18 after he had spent years trying to find Mum. Quite emotional, and amazing at the same time. We all get on as if we had grown up together, have the same likes and hobbies.

Good luck and enjoy the experience ☺️

Carol's family is now my family. I don't know where any relations are. Uncles and aunts deceased and as for cousins. Not a clue. I do have two older sisters. Eldest in the US. Somewhere in Virginia  and the other in Western Australia. Not seen either for years and little contact now.

The Depression years are mainly responsible for this.  People were still having kids, but could not afford to keep them.  It has happened a few times in my family.  My Mom and her sister were brought up a cousins.  Found out in their 30's.  My Dad was farmed around all of the relatives because my Grandmother could not afford to keep him at home.  You also had all of those girls back then having sex and getting pregnant, and giving up the baby for adoption.  That is the thing that will emotionally run through a family...when they did not know that Aunt Marion had a baby, gave it up for adoption, and lived with the secret until the child searched and found the mother.  Happened to our family...Grandma had 3 sisters, the oldest did what happened above.  Her son showed up some 20 years ago now.  All is good, but it does put things in a different light.  Mostly, it turns out to be a good thing...some may have trouble with it all.  :confusion-confused:  :occasion-xmas:   For the most part, it is what it is.  Good time to sit back and watch how all your relatives handle it.  The good and the bad can show up.  :eusa-think:

Got back today. Had a great time with Carols sister and family. We were made very welcome by one and all. It was good to see the joy in the sisters faces.

New BiL and I got on grand. He showed me round the farm and their collection of vintage tractors in various stages of restoration. Being in old farm buildings made it difficult to take decent photo's but I'll put what I took elsewhere.

I did come home with another project. Just fitted in the back of the car. SWM 125cc trials motorcycle. 1981-82. In need of a LOT of T.L.C.

Photo is after pressure washing off 20yrs of grime from being in the back of a shed. Going to take a lot of time and work. Engine turns over but no spark. Hopefully I can still find parts.
