Reasonable Source for lift Trunnions

Recommended Posts

pfrederi

I know Toro is very proud of some parts but, seriously $64.81 for a trunnion.  Are these things called something else as I can't seem to find them at McMaster or Fastenal. I have put the front tachmatic adapter on my Charger 16 to use a more modern deck.  When you use that front adapter you have to use the thick 1/2" lift rod instead of the 3/8" used on Chargers originally.   Interestingly the body size of the two trunnions is the same so I guess I could drill out the through hole but even the smaller trunnions are $14.98.

Any one have a reasonable source for these???

Thank you but Neither McMaster or Fastenal had anything under cable control ends.  Lots of ball joints, rod ends and heim joints etc but nothing like this....

I have 3 of these..new.  Part 103431.  Looks like it can be drilled out to 1/2. It now has a 3/8 hole---threaded.

$12...shipped...

I have made these as needed with my small South Bend Lathe and a drill press.

My method is to use  “ hex “ raw material to provide a flat indexed side to drill the two sized holes first. The larger Hole can be left smooth or threaded as required and the pivot side turned to size needed.
I used square bar stock as well.

Stainless steel hex comes out quite nice if it’s properties are desired.

The larger end can be left the hex shape if desired or turned down to a fixed round dimension for fit or just appearance.

With proper dimensions And materials provided I would be happy to make some up for you as you like.

before you ask, a couple of pictures in use, the pto lever next to battery is easy , just fill in the sloppy end gap with washers and lube. any other detail that you might have , just ask , pete

Don't think a heim join wold work on the lift.  The trunnion allows the lift rod to move up and and drop back down as you mow\e over uneven terrain.

I'll be teaching metal shop again this year, well, when in person learning can resume.  I have five lathes, a mill, a couple drill presses, and lots of taps.  Hmmm.... the ideas...

All I had was a short piece of 304 Stainless hex.
1 1/8 across width. I can turn it down round if you wish.

Marked our per your request. Holes drilled first on drill press.

South Bend 10k lathe , chucked and cut to length.
Faced and small diameter .375 turned. Edges And holes chamfered  And cleaned up.

pfrederi gave me his approval so I will make up a second and mail it off to him.

The hex side was left alone to provide a flat bearing service for the nut.
