Bigben9664 14 #1 Posted August 5, 2020 I was driving my tractor off of my truck when the cutting deck caught one of the ramps and i bailed. The tractor landed on its side, spilling oil. Its quite banged up and a little bent. Once i got it back up on its tires it was dead. Its been parked for a few months now and i cant get it to even turn over. I put a charger on boost and can hear a click sometimes, but nothing more. Ive checked a lot of the main electrical connections but still nothing. Id think even if rhe battery had gone bad, with the 50amp jump it would turn over. Not sure what to do next. I just bought a larger property and am really going to need it. Ive had her for about 10 years and always stored inside and serviced almost every year, but this was a big fall, i have a gmc 2500 with a 6 inch lift.
Bigben9664 14 #2 Posted August 5, 2020 Update, got her cranking, was a bad battery connection. Now she is cranking. The chock cable is frozen, do i did the choke manually. There is buffs of white smoke coming out when she turns over. The plug is wet when i pull it. So maybe not spark. Maybe the gas went bad? Im gonna grab some starter fluid, if it catches with that i guess that means bad gas?
lynnmor 7,302 #3 Posted August 5, 2020 Skip the starter fluid, bad things can happen. You may have fouled the plugs when the oil splashed up into the cylinders. Pull the plugs and crank it a bit, then put good plugs back in. 4
Stormin 9,981 #4 Posted August 5, 2020 I agree about the starter fluid. Forget it. Remove the plugs and make sure you've got a spark/sparks. If so, remove air filter and squirt petrol into the carb.
Pullstart 62,790 #6 Posted August 5, 2020 and sorry for your loss! I imagine with pictures, we might be able to survey the damage with you and figure out where to find parts...

Sam Pasch 449 #9 Posted August 5, 2020 Ooof. Thats not fun. Hope you can get it going again!
Bigben9664 14 #10 Posted August 5, 2020 When i flipped it, i was in the process of moving to northern NH. No more garage. She sat all winter covered with roofing rubber. It was nice to her it crank. I cleaned the plug, im going to check for spark now. If i remember correctly, you take out the plug, put the wire back on and put the tip of the plug near metal and crank and look for spark ?
pacer 3,168 #11 Posted August 5, 2020 OK, gas wont 'go bad' from falling off the truck, white smoke at first would be normal because the oil had seeped past the piston because of the tumble. And yes, forget the starter fluid (hard on engine) use gas or even WD40 to squirt in the carb - as mentioned determine if you are getting spark, a connection could have loosened in the tumble....
Bigben9664 14 #12 Posted August 5, 2020 The gas in that tank was from last October
Bigben9664 14 #13 Posted August 5, 2020 Ok, got really good spark. Gonna try to spray a little gas in the carb
Bigben9664 14 #14 Posted August 5, 2020 Sprayed gas in the carb, with and without the choke, nothing ..just cranks
Bigben9664 14 #15 Posted August 5, 2020 I cant figure out how to post a picture
Bigben9664 14 #18 Posted August 5, 2020 This vacuume attachment took a good hit and it tweaked. If i get it running i know it is gonna make a lot of noise when i engage it!
Bigben9664 14 #19 Posted August 5, 2020 (edited) So, i kept cranking and cranking, it started to backfire a bit from the carb, then she cought..at first she chugged, then smoothened out. When i got off of the seat to manually adjust the choke, she died and wont start back up..i was sooo close!! Edited August 5, 2020 by Bigben9664
Bigben9664 14 #20 Posted August 5, 2020 So now she will only start if i spray gas in the carb
R Scheer 502 #21 Posted August 5, 2020 So I'll ask the silly question, do you have gasin the tank? Also if you disconnect the fuel line at the carb, do you see gas coming out when you crank the engine?
lynnmor 7,302 #22 Posted August 5, 2020 (edited) Pull the line off the carb and see if you have a good flow while cranking, use caution and contain the gasoline. If you have a good flow, the carburetor needs pulled and cleaned. The PTO switch may have an issue, or you have the PTO engaged. Try TEMPORARILY bypassing the seat switch to see if the engine will continue to run. Do not run the blower if it is knackered, remove it so you won't have more parts to buy. If you keep pouring gas in the carburetor, some will get in the oil, so do an immediate oil change after the engine seems to be fixed. Bigben9664 14 #23 Posted August 5, 2020 ITS ALIVE!!! Helps when you put gas in and turn it on! 1
SylvanLakeWH 25,490 #24 Posted August 5, 2020 As mentioned - check for gas from fuel line at the carb. I would also suggest that the jolt from falling may have impacted some wiring / switches... I would trace wires to switches to insure no shorts.
