Pullstart 62,787 #3 Posted August 6, 2020 Nice work Andrew! It looks like you’ve got some great soil over there, we have quite a bit of clay but seem to do alright .
Duramax7man7 506 #4 Posted August 6, 2020 Thanks Fellas. And Yeah the soil is decent as leaves have been falling on the ground for many, many years. lol Sellers of the house weren't big on leave disposal. But as far as clay, make sure to add a nice amount of compost each year with some triple shredded wood chips in the fall and this will start breaking down and creating better humus soil and get rid of the clay.

Tractorhead 9,064 #6 Posted August 6, 2020 Nice Job, to mix compost under is a great idea, but be carefully with the Wooden Chips you wanna mix, because they can turn the Soil to sour. I try that on a piece of Soil but here things grow much slower than normal. depends on the ammount of wood you mix under.
WVHillbilly520H 10,373 #7 Posted August 8, 2020 @Duramax7man7 (Mastiffman), the 1 thing I would suggest is instead of coming back the opposite direction right next to the first swath tiller go to the far side of the garden like in a circle getting smaller as you go until you are in the center... I had my best results doing this way... Here's my gardening thread ... No videos but ...

Greentored 3,201 #11 Posted August 20, 2020 Great job with the video! Makes me miss the ol 520H. Also thanks for the input on what to do with clay- I started my first garden this spring, of course lovely NC red clay. A few things grew well, the rest died out far before producing.
doc724 925 #12 Posted August 20, 2020 Hi Duramax. I enjoyed your video. I used a moldboard plow for many years but once I obtained a tiller, I would never go back. Although a tiller is slower, the results are better and with a mold board plow you still have to bust up the clods and the wheel horse disc harrows just do not do a good enough job. I never removed the rear tach a matic hitch from my machines. Why bother, it is never in the way. Finally, the first time I put on my tiller it took me 45 minutes. After a couple of tries, I could get it done in 15 minutes and the biggest time consumer was removing the PTO yoke you could get the belt installed. By now, your garden should be going going like gangbusters!

Spent 3 months restoring and mild customizing and put it to work with zero plans to ever get rid of it. Absolutely LOVED it, but fell hard for the older Horses and sold the 520 to apply the funds there. It wont be the last 520 in the stable, tell ya that!
