Renrag 69 #1 Posted August 3, 2020 Just simle question guys, how can i boost my 3amp system? I have a simple armature, if i have to change flywheel will any work, or what do i look for its a 82 , 11horsey. Ive put extra lights and thinking of adding a wench, so i think I'll need a bit more juices for battery. Ty for reading my post i appreciate it, im trying to make my horse my own, plus keep stock best i can.
JAinVA 4,619 #2 Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) I can't help you with the Briggs but 3 amps won't handle even a 1000# winch for long if you use it. A 350cca battery will help but you need to get a charger to recharge the battery unless you want to let the tractror run for hours charging the battery.Winches really drain batteries Edited August 3, 2020 by JAinVA
Tractorhead 9,064 #3 Posted August 3, 2020 Dunno if there is a 15A chargercoil available for your Engine, but in case you use a Winch, you need definitely more than 3 Amps. A simple solution can be get a standart Car Genny 35A from an old beetle i.eg and Attach it on the PTO Side, So you‘re able to charge a small Car Battery fast enough to intermitted use the Winch you like. Without a Winch i would suggest use LED lights, they consumpt very less Current. but that depending on how much (bright) light you need and how long it should work while recharge. If you drop the current consumption down from 3A to 1A charging i.eg. with 2A for lights, you need 3 times longer for recharge than before. If you just use it short term, could be strange
Renrag 69 #4 Posted August 3, 2020 Thats why im trying to figure out more juice JAinVA, i don't know if theres a way to get a larger armature or retro a flywheel with more magnets, or some sort of voltage regulator to boost amps. Tractorhead your right about using led, i found a set of led marker lights for the back, and i have a led strip above hitch that runs with headlights. I dont have pto on my model, i wish i did, maybe my next one. Im not much on alot of electrical, i know what i want to do, but your talking a little spanish to me. I was thinking of some sorta voltage regulater, use it like a amplifier, but i don't know exactly how that would run with only 3amp feeding it, or quite how that would wire in really. I was a contractor i never messed much with electric, heck i just learned how a cricut meter works lmao. Ty for advice, theres gotta be something im missing or not checked into to amp juice
Skipper 1,788 #5 Posted August 3, 2020 There is no magic that can transform 3 Amps into more than 3 Amps. Doesn't matter how you try to fool it with what ever gizmos this world has to offer. Only option is to adapt a more powerful charging setup. My advice: don't waste tons of money trying to do this, unless your tractor has other unique values for you. Better spend it on a trade up, and get a tractor that can handle what you ask of it. Example: you could perhaps do a conversion, custom made parts, or an engine swap to achieve your goal, but those hundreds of $$$ could perhaps also be spend on upgrading you to a nice regular classic series or something like that. 312's 314's etc. are good and cheap, and they charge 15Amps................ Now I don't know what tractor you have, but that is just my on it.
Achto 27,504 #6 Posted August 3, 2020 Hook this up to your PTO, run a single wire from it to your battery, job done. https://www.dbelectrical.com/products/alternator-1-wire-universal-self-excited-10si-10-si-7127-se.html?mrkgadid=3179552226&mrkgcl=1145&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=0&mrkgcat=&acctid=21700000001643279&dskeywordid=92700046661721776&lid=92700046661721776&ds_s_kwgid=58700005279187059&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007195091&dsproductgroupid=346753789164&product_id=ADR0152&merchid=1552033&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid={product_store_id}&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&locationid=9019452&creative=196860178238&targetid=aud-910917284123:pla-346753789164&campaignid=835875553&adgroupid=51238868348&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg4ybsOr-6gIVG_fjBx3ukQCkEAQYAyABEgJSTPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds 2
Redneckdavis 308 #7 Posted August 3, 2020 One wire alternator driven off PTO. That's best option. Summit racing is good place to look, prob going to run $75 or so

That results with Load of Belt in close to 1-1,5HP in peak only for charging system. on a 5 HP setup that means, you just have 3,5 HP available in worst case, on a 12 HP engine you have 10,5HP available for other purposes. That be a huge different. A 35Amps beetle Genny have 2 Wires and an integrated regulator. one Wire ( B+) is the Main charging wire to Batt Terminal + one wire (D+) is the control wire and must be go via a 5W bulb to a switched + i.eg. the ignition pin on the Key Switch The ground is on chassis. Difference on 35A you be good with AWG 7 on 63 A you shall use minimum AWG 5 D+ needs only AWG 20 via the bulb and to + Terminalof Switch or battery. The bulb in the D+ line to positive terminal is charging controll bulb, same as in any Car.
Goofey 89 #9 Posted August 3, 2020 He still doesn't have a pto to run that alternator off. I also think its best to swap it for one that's capable instead of making a glorious redneck moment out of it.
