Mickwhitt 4,593 #1 Posted August 1, 2020 HI all, Looks like I have fallen into being a lawn mower guy. A local resident posted on social media he needed a mower fixing. Turns out there are no repair shops anywhere nearby. So I offered to have a look at it. Mountfield self propelled, bit old and tatty but essentially sound and looked after. Cable clamp had broken so just needs replacing. Charged him a fair price and he's over the moon. Now I'm getting more calls... Maybe I can make a bit of pocket money at this. Better start thinking about a business name, logos, recovery vehicle, renting a garage, employing staff, pension schemes.....
Mickwhitt 4,593 #6 Posted August 2, 2020 Hey hey, slow down there! Before you have me on the apprentice shouldn't I show there's a business in there lol. We don't have business permits or licensing over here, but insurance might be necessary in case someone loses a foot to me fitting a new grass box. Going to just test the water and see if there's a need for my work. If not I'm not worried about it, all my tools are for my hobby anyways. Thinking of offering a hibernation package to put the mower away for the winter, clean and dry, ready to start first time in spring. Mick 2
Mickwhitt 4,593 #7 Posted August 2, 2020 Well, another orphan mower turned up today. Guy just walking past said he'd heard I was tinkering with petrol mowers. He'd just bought a new one and said I could pick up the old one. It runs but the rear roller adjuster is damaged, a pretty quick fix. So i will do it up and sell it on. By the way, replacement engine for the hyundai mower is £165 so I'm going to order one and fit it. The deck is like new so I will have a very smart new mower. Mick The hibernation package sounds like something that you could easily sell, such a good idea for often neglected machinery.
Mickwhitt 4,593 #10 Posted August 15, 2020 Wow things are going well with the mower repairs, I now have six free petrol mowers donated because they don't work. This morning a mountfield self propelled came in. Problem; will not stop. Solution, reconnect kill wire to switch. They bought a new mower because of that, and its only two seasons old. Will have to sell some as I'm running out of room lol. 1 2

Mickwhitt 4,593 #12 Posted August 17, 2020 the mountfield mentioned above, he just left it to run with the engine stop brake engaged until it ran out of petrol! So the brake pad had come off and needed re gluing on. I used JB weld so that should be up to the job.
