My wheelhorse morpffedite

Recommended Posts

Renrag

My mom sent me out to buy a mower, well what caught my eye was a add for a 74 wheelhorse, and thats where thing went wrong.  I bought it, no fenders, bad bearing on  deck (supposedly).

Well got it home ran great, engaged deck and nothing, not a single pully turning  faster then wind blown. Took deck off , but and not a single bearing or pully was good. Looked around for vin to call around for parts , but plate was painted over. I cleaned off plate ,and no vin # or model #. I called toro and they couldn't help with parts, to old. I called around found a old wheelhorse  dealer. After mismatching pulleys and bearings till something fit and deck worked, completely rebuilt.

Then the carb started to stumble, well s#@t , need a head gasket, after forth one carb runs better, no perfect, but close.

After rolling it on the small hill in yard decided it needed fenders, i parted out a old craftsman and still had the fenders, so i retro fit them with very little , few screw holes, to original  tractor. Well before fenders i had to cut a rim shaft halfway to get it off, but after all that it stops moving on me one day, so i pulled transmission for second time, first was for inpection and regrease it,  which we did most of a rebuild on. Well this time i got a transmission out of a john deere same case for most part. Move a bracket and shifter parts , and swithed all spider gears and axles, well now it moves and goes great if keyway would stay in rim we cut, but there was no stop with new trans, the brakes wouldnt work, so i rebuilt brakes with a set of old murray brakes, stops now!!!! My last mod at moment is custom fit the back hitch plate from john deere on it, with no altering original tractor. Mean while saving every part and bolt ive taken off.

Looks more like a big tractor  with the 4 wheeler tires i put on it with that back plate too.

Finally my best guess is its a 82 b115 motor numbers matcht look the same minus the black on the hood, same gear count, both had peerles 801, 11 horse motor ect. Ill post pics later today. Any help on info identifying it would be greatly appreciated

Sorry everyone was busy tonight , hood fell off, so had to put a new straight rod in for it, and wired in a led light under the back of fenders for the hitch at night. Ill have pics first thing tomorrow, once i figure out how to upload them. Im good fixing things, but lost when it comes to this stuff

once the pictures have been downloaded to your computer you can add them to your next thread by clicking on choose files... at the lower left and it will take you to your photo files on the computer. Select the photo and click Open and it will be magically transported to your new post, click on the "+" and it will become a part of the post.

Thanks for clearing that up Richard. I've been wondering for years how that happens.

Tires are 22x12x10, fenders sit approximately 3-4" higher then stock, and hitch is mounted on top of stock hitch plate, so i could practically pull a bus with it lol. Is there a way to increase the elctrical output to battery, i wanna charge battery better with the lights I've added, and plan to add. I mean is the a way of adding a workable regulater, or bigger armuture?

Not easily, would have to change the stator under the flywheel and possibly the flywheel.

If one is available with more magnets in it I believe. Most of those I think only had a 3amp

system.

Yea its only 3 amp, thats why i hoped for the increase. I wasn't sure how to do it

Howie i was thinking i don't have a stater, just a amature, just any bs flywheel work, or what do i need to look at to match one up? Ive worked on small engines,  just never got into technicalities

Basically that is what you have, stator is what B&S calls them.

I think any of them will interchange with each other. The flywheel

not sure, if the ring gear is same diameter and hole and taper the

same may work. Have done it on engines a little bigger than that

one but not those.
