Help with PTO pulley

Recommended Posts

Richcz28

Hi guys, I broke the PTO pulley on my tractor. I can’t seem to remove it and I need to source a replacement.

Do folks have any advice? Thanks in advance!

Were you trying to take the pulley off of the crankshaft if so go to your local parts store that rents tools and get a harmonic balancer puller. What model tractor is this?

Yes, I believe it’s sitting too close to the engine based on some threads I’ve read. I was trying to move it outwards 1/4 inch.

My PTO clutch is not engaging.

There should be two set screws did you get both out.  Also sometimes people have doubled the set screw in one hole, make sure they are completely open.  As tool crib rent borrow steal harmonic balance puller or a flange bearing puller.

Yep, I got the set screws out.

I’ll grab a puller this week and try my luck with that.

Then I’ll just need to grab a replacement.

Rich you'll want to start soaking that with penetrating fluid through the 2 set screw holes.

Old school Liquid Wrench, Kroil work good.

Heat is your friend as well. Get the pulley good and hot and as it cools drip a little oil into those holes.

When you are shopping for a replacement be sure to get the correct crankshaft measurement.

Might want to move it out less than a 1/4". Depends how close the belt gets to the guard.

Heat is good just beware there is a crank shaft seal just behind that pulley. Before you put the new pulley back on clean all the surfaces well and add a smaal amount of grease or some here use never seize.

lf you need a pulley post an add on the classified section .

I still see set screws there. Many times they put a set screw on top of set screw so two in each hole.

I never would have thought about two set screws. I’ll take a look later today.
