That was in 1970 when I was 12 and remember saying to myself that it looked like a HD quality lawnmower and was hooked. 19 years later I bought this new and with 580 hrs still own it. My "modern" Horse was a '74 until recently. Now I've moved up to a '75. Trina's are all from the 60s. I must be getting old, because that is plenty modern enough for me! My grandpa always said "don't make 'em like that anymore" about tractors, cars, and occasionally- the ladies. Stumbled onto WH looking at vintage tractors on the net.Never realized there was such a following. I love the mechanical aspect of these quality tractors, built to last and made in America ! I bought my first WH a 1971 800 special from a nice fella in PA.I restored the cutting deck . I use it mainly to cut grass and pull a trailer around the yard to do yard work. It’s a awesome machine, nothing made today doesn’t even come close to the durability and reliability as these old iron machines from a time gone past. Consigliere 11 #85 Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) I moved from the mean streets of South Philly where I had owned a rowhouse with pavement out front and an 8 x 10 backyard of South Philly grass (cement) out to an 1864 farmhouse on two acres in the Amish country. Much of the property was overgrown and I bought a 1984 21 inch Toro walk behind with a Briggs and Stratton engine from a 10-year old Mennonite kid for 150 bucks. Needless to say that wasn't enough to mow two acres and the next year I decided I wanted to mow the whole property. That meant a riding mower and I started perusing Craiglist. A one family 1976 Wheel Horse B80 was newly up for sale. I went and checked it out. The man selling it said it had belonged to his father-in-law but he was upgrading. My uncle, who deals in vintage farm equipment, told me if it was in good condition he wouldn't pay more than 600. The seller wanted 700 but agreed to deliver it to my house. When it arrived my wife rolled her eyes and said " I knew you would come home with something cooler than just some riding mower." That’s what pulled me in to buying the 502 to cut my lawn. I could already see me being the guy mowing and all the people snapping their heads to look at that sweet vintage round hood still doing chores. That thing could do wheelies....until Mom saw me doing one! My brother was standing on the hitch! pretty spectacular! Tonyp 284 #89 Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) I am guessing 1960 or so, I was just a young lad growing up in Ct. We had plenty of snow. A neighbor down the way had a very long driveway and I just happened to be out after a snow storm and saw him plowing his driveway with what I thought was the coolest thing ever, a small red tractor with a snowplow. ! A Wheel Horse of course. I never forgot this, even to this day. Bought my first house in the mid 70's , first thing I bought was an A10 with a deck and a snow plow. The A 10 did everything I wanted ( I was on 5 acres heavily wooded) until 1987 which is when I sold it and bought a new 310-8. I still have the 310. I also have a C81 and a 315-8.
