How did you get into Wheel Horse tractors? What's your story?

If memory serves me correctly the blazer is a 68 and as far as I know his oldest son still has it.

Any Chevy truck in that era is my favorite. It's hard to argue with a single vacuum line. Unless of course you have power brakes, then there's 2 vacuum lines.

Your collection of modern :wh:'s is what my crusty old neighbor would call, "An embarrassment of riches." Meant in a very positive way!

I would call your collection, "Kick @55" ;)

I remember in the back seat of my Dads 1966 Dodge Coronet going by a home in a neighboring town a red garden tractor mowing a lawn. That was in 1970 when I was 12 and remember saying to myself that it looked like a HD quality lawnmower and was hooked. 19 years later I bought this new and with 580 hrs still own it. Best investment I have ever made.

My "modern" Horse was a '74 until recently. Now I've moved up to a '75.

Trina's are all from the 60s.

We've got a couple really newfangled '86s that deserve some attention out there now.

3 vacuum lines if having power brakes and vacuum windshield wipers. I have a 2020 ford f-350 6.7 power stroke, I am pretty sure some where under all the hoses and wires there is an engine.

I must be getting old, because that is plenty modern enough for me!

My grandpa always said "don't make 'em like that anymore" about tractors, cars, and occasionally- the ladies. :P

He would be insulted by the term "modern" now after what kinds of machines are being sold here. He'd still like the ladies though...

I got interested in these tractors when I decided I wanted a riding mower. But I didn’t want a new plastic, China made machine.

Stumbled onto WH looking at vintage tractors on the net.Never realized there was such a following.

I love the mechanical aspect of these quality tractors, built to last and made in America !

I bought my first WH a 1971 800 special from a nice fella in PA.I restored the cutting deck . I use it mainly to cut grass and pull a trailer around the yard to do yard work.

It’s a awesome machine, nothing made today doesn’t even come close to the durability and reliability as these old iron machines from a time gone past.

I moved from the mean streets of South Philly where I had owned a rowhouse with pavement out front and an 8 x 10 backyard of South Philly grass (cement) out to an 1864 farmhouse on two acres in the Amish country. Much of the property was overgrown and I bought a 1984 21 inch Toro walk behind with a Briggs and Stratton engine from a 10-year old Mennonite kid for 150 bucks.

Needless to say that wasn't enough to mow two acres and the next year I decided I wanted to mow the whole property. That meant a riding mower and I started perusing Craiglist. A one family 1976 Wheel Horse B80 was newly up for sale. I went and checked it out. The man selling it said it had belonged to his father-in-law but he was upgrading. My uncle, who deals in vintage farm equipment, told me if it was in good condition he wouldn't pay more than 600. The seller wanted 700 but agreed to deliver it to my house.  When it arrived my wife rolled her eyes and said " I knew you would come home with something cooler than just some riding mower."  Looking at a  Toro Wheelhorse 520H now as I've worked that B80 really hard.

yeah man!  That’s what pulled me in to buying the 502 to cut my lawn.  I could already see me being the guy mowing and all the people snapping their heads to look at that sweet vintage round hood still doing chores.  Come to find out, it came true!

Dad bought a 1045 when I was 14 years old.  I wore out his lawn. At least until I got my drivers license. That  thing could do wheelies....until Mom saw me doing one! My brother was standing on the hitch! pretty spectacular! Funny cars have nothing on a 1045 with someone on the back!

I am guessing 1960 or so, I was just a young lad growing up in Ct. We had plenty of snow.  A neighbor down the way had  a very  long driveway and I just happened to be out after a snow storm and saw him plowing his driveway  with what I thought was the  coolest thing ever, a small red tractor with a snowplow. ! A Wheel Horse of course. I never forgot this, even to this day.

Bought my first house in the mid 70's , first thing I bought was an A10 with a deck and a snow plow. The A 10  did everything I wanted ( I was on 5 acres heavily wooded)  until 1987 which is when I sold it and bought a new 310-8. I still  have the 310.  I also have  a C81 and a 315-8.     I even have a few Wheel Horse vintage hats , never worn !

best
