mrc 841 #1 Posted July 24, 2020 i know the earlier wh tractors came equipped with sunstrand hydro's hydrogear vs. piston to piston. how are they different? can both be rebuilt? i also know the later wh tractors had the eaton auto's. eaton 700 and 1100. you want the 1100 because it's more robust and has a filter. the eaton's can be rebuilt correct? thank you mike in mass. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
stevasaurus 22,863 #2 Posted July 24, 2020 Mike the main answer to your question is " yes" all of them can be rebuilt. The only thing that can change that is not having the part you need. So far, that is not an issue, but if they are not making the parts anymore...you need to find used ones and hope that the good part(s) are in there. Right now, if you can take it apart, you can fix it. One other point I should make...when you say Sundstrand, you are talking about the pump...the transaxle is Wheel Horse. Parts and bearings and seals are readily available for the transaxles. A lot of members do not make that distinction. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

As to the difference between Sundstrand piston-piston and Hydro gear... like asking the diff between a Chevy & Ford, although the overhaul procedure is quite similar. IMHO... the Hydro gear is more robust and has fewer 'wear-out' parts than does the Piston-Piston. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
The Tuul Crib 7,337 #4 Posted July 24, 2020 Yes the Hydro gear is very workable and rebuildable . But there is a lot of elbow grease that goes with it. All the surfaces that need to be re-leveled and re-ground is a little bit of extra work but it's well worth the effort. I'm new to the automatic and the Sunstrand so I can't wait to sit my fat behind on it and go for the first ride around the property. yeeee haaa! @daveoman1966 I still need some advice on a few things! 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
