Gear shift gator needed in uk

Recommended Posts

Felix

Hi. I’m needing a gear shift gator for a manual 4 speed transmission.
im in the uk.
is there an alternative to a genuine part?
The original one is perished and split and I’m guessing that why the transmission oil is full of water😬

any help appreciated.

WHX??

I ordered a bunch of them off fleabay for a great deal on a quantity not looking at the seller. Here it turned out Lowell was the seller! That said they are on there if @wheelhorseman doesn't ship international.

This is one item I made several replacement boots out of tennis balls!   They are thicker and can be cut with a hack saw on bottom and drilled through on top for shifter!   These will last longer than the Wheel Horse boot!

Great idea!

Just one question - where did you find Regal Red or black tennis balls? :confusion-confused:

etsy is you have to have matching!  Or it does take quite a bit of paint to fill in the tennis ball fuzz!

I will give the tennis ball trick ago.
sounds good.
Is it a tight fit on the gearbox or would it need a jubilee clip to secure it?

The size of the top cut determines how tight the rest of the ball fits over the shifter and the transmission .  No clips should be needed!

FELIX, your stating of water in the transmission , makes me say do a couple of lighter oil flushes on that gear box , with the front end raised for better drainage. i like ATF FLUID , or kerosene , and a thorough use of all the gears and hi/lo ranges . picture what you are trying to do , getting rid of water in those bearings and sliders , more detail will make it shift like new . regular gear oil would be 75-90 wt or 75- 140 wt . let us know how you make out , pete

Ok I found some pics from 2019 (last time I made one of the tennis ball boots for a Wheel Horse shifter on the transmission).

This may give you a better idea how to make one of these tennis ball boots for your tractor!

Good idea Lane, but wouldn't it be better to drill the top hole for a tighter fit on the rod...

I usually do with a wood bit but this was a quick job on a Work tractor.  You do have to cut bottom out first before drilling!
