I will say I had a 78 plymouth horizon with the German drivetrain, ran it almost 200k, one clutch cable and valve seals. nothing else. sold it to a coworker and he ran it to 300+ and could not believe it. He to had to put a clutch cable in it. Guy at work would buy up the Horizon's with the 1.7 VW 4 banger. Then when the rad would clog up on a customer's car and melt the engine he'd have one to sell because the junkyards had none!
wh500special 2,184 #77 Posted November 22, 2022 (edited) Corvairs… I always liked them, but I’m not really into old cars so it’s unlikely one will ever come my way. This thread made me think of two Corvair related things I stumbled on recently. First, this one is oft featured in Matt’s Off Road Recovery videos and is called the MORRvair. Obviously just the body at this point, but a neat vehicle. https://www.thedrive.com/news/40554/that-lifted-chevy-corvair-wagon-built-for-off-road-recoveries-is-finally-finished I have zero interest in off roading but for some reason find this guy’s videos captivating. Great podcast about the Corvair. The podcaster - Eddie Alterman - is a former Car and Driver editor and an erudite guy. Good stuff, his other episodes are great too. https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/car-show-with-eddie-alterman/the-chevrolet-corvair-how-safety-failed-us Steve 6D43F8E9-145B-4690-A32E-DAF25C542AEA.webp 64F1198E-7728-4CA3-92FA-86F71A07014A.webp Edited November 22, 2022 by wh500special

I worked at a body shop in the 80's & 90's, we kept door handles for these cars in stock. Bet I changed at least 2 per month. Broke the door handle on my Omni 024 twice in the few years that I owned it.

We did have a TC3 that needed door handles. One story about the TC3 was a Saint Bernard showed up one day. My wife said we need to take him over to her mom's place. Put him in the back seat and he sat there like a NFL lineman with his head up front between us. He loved riding in the car.
