Work Horse

Morning

 

Tell me about WORK HORSES.... were they just rebranded WH, or a separate line sold outside the dealer channel ?  Local ad for a Work Horse and I have of course seen pictures here.  I assume it is mechanically the same ?

 

Any differences other than paint and decals ? Will it get along with my B80's and the C100 ?

 

The one I am looking at appears to be a GT 1100.

 

Worth more or less than a Red horse or all about the same  ? 

 

Why  do I need a 4th one ?

Yes.

They'll acclimate fine.

I've always considered them an economy model. Same main chassis as the rest of the Horse's but with a Briggs engine instead of a Kohler or Onan.

I have read that they were also a part of a Wheel Horse company effort to preserve or address a copyright issue with the “Work Horse” name...? Perhaps others can chime in on that...

Save all the clutch pieces.  The main drive pulley on the engine is valuable due to it being machined for a thrust bearing.  There are threads on here about this.  That pulley and the mounting plate give you engine options you wouldn't otherwise have.  Bill

I like the colors of the Work Horse. I have a 416H that needs a lot of tlc and I would like to paint it in Work Horse colors if I ever get around to it!

My first ever Wheel Horse was a Work Horse 1642. The differences I recall were few. The biggest, besides the Briggs twin, was the lighter 1" rear axle/4 pinion rear on a Machine that was otherwise similar to a 416-8. I would agree that they were an economy version of the Wheel Horse line.

The GT-1100 is essentially a C-105 or a 310-8. 
  I heard that the Workhorse line was offered to compete in the tractor market price wise. The Briggs powerplants were less expensive than Kohler. Check out this ad for comparison. The GT 1100 was $1400 less than the comparable C-105.
