71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted July 15, 2020 Just put a 5060 8-speed into my Commando 8. Questioning how much oil to put in it. Based on the 1267 / 1067 manual (which came with a 5060 transmission), the fill capacity is 2 quarts. On my old 5053 3-speed, I was told to basically fill it until it came out the fill hole. Should I do the same with the 5060 (has the little filler extension), or should I measure out the 2 quarts? Thanks!

stevasaurus 22,863 #3 Posted July 15, 2020 You can do either one and be OK. While the transmission uses the splash method to keep oil in every nook and cranny...the difference between 1 1/2 and 2 qts will still do the job in this case. But know this...you want the oil at least the level of the top of that extension. That insures that you have oil in the differential for your floating pinions and the spring.
