Bill 4 #1 Posted May 11, 2009 I have a 8 speed thats been jumping out of first and second gear , also there's a lot of play in the in shifter seems like there is so much play that it's not going all the way in to gear before it hits the H cut out in the sheet medal...... any ideas??? kajamo240 3 #2 Posted May 11, 2009 The same thing happened to me while I was plowing this winter. I found when there was a lot of strain on the mower, it would pop out of gear and I would have to put it back into gear. After a couple times, the shift knob came right out. The wonderful people here told me what had happened and said it was probably the set screw that had come loose. So I put that back in and it did the trick.
