Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #1 Posted July 12, 2020 I have a weakness for these early gilson machines so I picked this up today. There's just something about those round fenders and the big square hood. Who has one of these? I don't see many of these around. Came with a front mount blade and a ton of maintenance paperwork from over the years. Something fell on it and broke the steering wheel, but it takes the same wheel as a horse and I have a two on the shelf. Anyone have a starter generator belt cover for it they want to sell? Last picture is what the shield looks like. 1 4
D_Mac 8,618 #2 Posted July 12, 2020 I had a little Gilson snow blower once. It was in fantastic shape for its age. I wound up giving it to a friend and he trashed it, bugs me to this day still. Nice tractor you picked up. What year is that? Glad to see someone other then me posting stuff in the " Other Brands " section. Same colors as the Simplicity I just picked up !
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #3 Posted July 12, 2020 Well the original bill of sale was included and its dated 5/9/1968. He also included all the maintenance records, the previous owner was very detailed. I have all the maintenance records from when it was bought new until 2000 when the original owner died.
D_Mac 8,618 #4 Posted July 12, 2020 Thats a great find looks pretty cool. I just picked up a 1969 Simplicity in great shape too. Only mine came with a snow blower attachment and no deck. I would rather have the deck like yours. Yours running? Mine sat for very long time. I fired it today but I need to go through it yet.
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #5 Posted July 12, 2020 Mine has sat since 2000 and the inside of the gas tank is absolute crap so that will have to be addressed first. Haven't tried to do anything to it yet, but it's probably gonna sit until winter when I finish up some of my other projects.
squonk 41,111 #6 Posted July 15, 2020 It's pretty amazing that almost all of the tractor and engine builders from the 50's 60's were located in Wisconsin
Darb1964 1,042 #7 Posted July 15, 2020 Check the trip on the blade, hopefully that's not how the wheel got broke.
