KrazyK80 15 #1 Posted July 10, 2020 I'm new to this wheel horse game but from the hour I had to do research before I won 2 auctions, it seems like a pretty damn good machine. My friend just bought a small farm and is starting out from absolute scratch. A short sale auction was going to end and just happened to have a 350-8 with 90 hours. Also it came with a a slew of Johnny brand accessories ( see pic). Now of course I may be getting the shaft sight unseen but they also had another wheel horse ( no model info and untested) up for bids with a mower deck and bagger. I said what the hell. I could use it for spare parts. Well, as I said, we were the winning bids. The 350-8 with attachments we got for $1100 and the other one ( untested) we got for $260. Everyone here is willing to answer any questions you might have or help you with selling or buying more !! Most of us here buy more and sell less. They tend to grow on you. LOL Buying older in a lot of cases specially with garden tractors will always be a good bet. This old iron is built to last and parts are mostly available online or at your local toro dealer or deere dealer if your also into the green ones to like me. The second one with the verticals shaft engine is not built as heavy duty, but is a good riding mover...not a garden tractor. I imagine the accessories on the 350-8 make it a better deal, but the majority decision here is garden tractors are far superior to lawn tractors. As mentioned, hopefully your friend has a big barn for you to store these in, they tend to multiply! I made room in the garage for storage by putting up racks. Let us know when you have them both running and we like plenty of pictures ! Its worth it to subscribe so you can post as many pictures as you want. You will get that money back in the wealth of knowledge you will receive here on your tractors, plus people Like @pullstart can teach you how to pack your barn or pickup truck to full capacity. @squonk can teach you all about Tecumseh engines ! ohiofarmer 3,265 #14 Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) I have no idea how the prices are where you live,but the heavier tractor is the starting point for most of us. you asked for an honest opinion, so here it is. You can get a pretty good idea of what a fair price for them are for your particular area just by going through the for sale section on Redsquare. There is not much to be had in recent postings this year as last year, but just go through the older postings or even the sold archive to find out what constitutes a good deal. there are some that i would like to look at in your general area that i would be interested in, but just too far away. Personally i like the c-series as a balance of pure simplicity married with the legendary durability of the cast iron engine. You need at least one,and if you can find one with a mower for maybe 4 to 5 hundred that runs well, at 12 horsepower, it will handle some tough grass for sure with a 42" deck and up to 48' on well maintained lawns. There is a lot to learn here. Some guys like a maintained patina finish, some like shiny paint like your very nice one. i warn you in advance that these tractors are addictive, but when you look at the fun you have by working on them vs. the cost of a nice night at a restaurant, the horse wins.' Give me a wrench and a friend and hamburgers on the grill and a 60 cent beer and i am happy" are words to live by. Even it‘s just a Sheetmetal Tractor it is strong built and sold here as industrial grade mower. i got it‘s brother a 212 -5. they be able to do more than they appears. but i would not use for continousely hard work except Mowing. 1000 Squaremeter are not a real work for it, he play‘s with. i love it‘s lightweight built and the Pressure Oil lube, that allows me a mowing also on a heavy steep hill. they both are a perfect combo for work together each has it‘s advance.
