Brake shaft seal

I need to change the brake shaft seal on an Eaton 1100 I assume, and I know assuming is a dangerous thing to do, I need to drain some oil out of the transmission before I change the seal.  Am I correct?

Check where the oil level is with the dipstick.  I believe you will be OK without draining.  Jacking up that side will help as well.

:text-yeahthat:   Oil level shouldn't be that high and you will need to jack it up anyway. Be sure to file off any rust and other nicks on the axle and tape off the keyway when you install the seal.

Thanks for the replies, now all I need is a cooler day to work on it.
