Kohler Maintenance

So I know a fair bit about Onan maintenance, but what about Kohler maintenance/service on engines such as K301, M12, M14, M16, etc?

I'd say one of the most important thing you can do is change oil often.

I've found over the years that which brand of oil to use can be a hotly-contested subject. I find it mildly amusing that some of us swear by a given brand and others swear at it..

I'll leave that choice up to those that are using it in their own engines.

Biggest issue is oil change frequency.

We don't work our engines very hard around our property so I try to change the oil at about every 25 or 30 hours on engines that do not have a filter.

I normally run a straight 30 in the warm season and 10w 30 in Cinnamon Horse k341 in the cold season.

Air filter? Take it out and clean it once or twice a year. Replace as needed.

That’s what I do. I own three mower decks. My own lawn, and two others that I do, with a 414-8 tractor.  I run that hot, and I change oil in the 414, 3 times a year. And the other wheelhouses ( that don’t get used as often as the 414) twice a year.

Cool. Thanks guys! Yeah, oil is changed regularly.

I guess I meant other things, like valve adjustment, etc.

TC10284, i would add that ROTELLA 30 WT , IS A GREAT SUMMER OIL ,  their 5-30 rotella  truck oil is great over winter , emphasis  on changing HOT OIL  , will give you the most removal of crud build up , i would also do a baseline transmission fluid change , jack up front end of tractor for best drainage ,  75 90  0r 75-140 gear oil. typically valve adjustment is not an issue . seafoam gas treatment, regularly will help keep the fuel system clean . stay after it , pete

I guess I’ve never adjusted valves out of the 9 or 10 wheel horses that I’ve owned.... including the C101 that my Dad has owned since 1979.
