D_Mac 8,593 #1 Posted July 8, 2020 (edited) I have an opportunity to pick this one up for 20 bucks. Comes with a snowblower attachment but no mower deck. Hasnt ran in years. Was left behind when owners purchased the house yrs ago. Now they want it gone. Half of me says grab it and try to get it running, the other half says look in your garage you fool, you still have the Lambert project and you still have the Homemade Speedanza !!!! I am thinking even if I got it running...what could I possibly get for it? Anyone have any knowledge of these things? I thought it has an articulating frame but cant be sure. I went to look at it today but really didnt examine it well. What I see was needed tires and a seat. Other than that wasnt in to bad shape. The snowblower attachment was in GREAT shape. @diesel cowboy @squonk @Stepney @ebinmaine any of you guys have information on these? LOL the only information I find on the net is that it had a adjustable seat !! When thats the best feature it isnt saying much ! D_Mac 8,593 #5 Posted July 8, 2020 Well someone might say that if it were Green and Yellow. Here is the snowblower attachment and if I sweet talk him I bet I can get him to throw in the Toro electric snow shovel .

elcamino/wheelhorse 9,295 #9 Posted July 9, 2020 I had one of the broadmoore units it is build like a tank. If it was like the one I had the rear articulates and not the front axle . Mind had 3 forward gears and a reverse . Can't remember the motor but had the generator /starter.
D_Mac 8,593 #10 Posted July 9, 2020 @elcamino/wheelhorse yes I think it does. Looks like a Briggs. I think the frame pivots like a little SNAPPER rider I had at one time. It seemed well built like you say. Small little rider but all steel. i should have looked at it closer. I tried to lift the hood but couldnt, didnt want to monkey around with it. Might go back tomorrow......ughhhh. The chrome bumper and wheel covers are calling me !!
Stepney 2,325 #11 Posted July 9, 2020 I had a 728 myself and .. I'm sorry Elmer Pond.. but that thing was just the absolute best mowing machine. The center frame pivot made for a nice ride and with a good deck, they cut and stripe like no other. The generators wear prematurely and are prone to loosing bearings, due to the vertical orientation. The frame pivot can break if not maintained or abused.. but that one looks clean. Bought mine cheap and it was in real good shape. They are NOT garden tractors. The blower will disappoint. They are too light. Built stout enough.. but not so heavy that it leaves ruts in the lawn. If I had the chance to get another for cheap I would. But mine was just too small for what I needed to do. 2

It was a decent little butt buggy but kind of small for me. Did scare the crap out of me when I took it for the first drive as I didn't know that the frame pivoted right in front of the seat and I backed out of the shop and turned to the side and one tire went over a big rock. IIRC the hood was bolted on and the S/G is specific to the vertical Briggs cause it's about 2 inches shorter than every other one I've worked on. As for what you could get for it I really have no idea. 1

Those were the 'short frame' Delco generators. Some other engines used them too, but they are far less common and I think were phased out by the later sixties.. awful in the cold.
D_Mac 8,593 #15 Posted July 9, 2020 Well thanks for the imput, but now I am not sure I can get it. I will have to go knock on the door. It was at a garage sale and I think the sale is over. I will toss the ramps in my truck and ride over and see. Should have grabbed it this afternoon. I have picked up stuff in much worse condition. I just didnt want to deal with any vertical shaft riders any more. Maybe its gone. The ad for the sale has been deleted. LOL if the sale is over and the still have it I will offer them 10. How much is scrap metal these days? 4 bucks per 100lbs?
Achto 27,502 #16 Posted July 9, 2020 Should have a Briggs engine. Two common issues with the engine - points & carburetor. Easiest fix for the points, cut the wire that goes from the coil to the points under the fly wheel, remove the original coil and replace it with Briggs part #398811. This is a solid state coil and will not require the use of the points. If you purchase an after market coil that matches this part number it is sometimes cheaper than points & condenser would cost. If the carb is junk, throw it away and purchase a cheap aftermarket one from ebay. You could rebuild it but it's cheaper & easier to replace. The rear pivot point on the tractor can be an issue some times. the frame can crack around this point. Other than these issue they are great little tractors. Kind of a cross over between a lawn tractor and a garden tractor, a very capable for a vertical shaft 1
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,496 #17 Posted July 9, 2020 Thel Broadmore 727 was a good little unit, and to be honest, one of the best lawn tractors of that era, baring any color, any brand. I had a Broadmore 728 briefly - they're built solidly. For $20, I'll be all over that in a heart beat. To to simpletractors.com to find more info on it. 1

Some folks just have the most incredibly obstinate mindset. Not meaning to sound negative. Don't take it that way. Just really strikes me funny when somebody says they are FIRM on the price that they are listing or they're going to send it to scrap. But it's okay if they get one tenth of what they're actually looking for. Really? It's increasingly obvious that logic and common Sense are no longer standardized installations on humans.
