71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted July 6, 2020 Going to be working on my 8hp Commando 8 motor soon, and one thing I'm not looking forward to is removing the tripple pulley on the crank of the motor. There is no drilled & tapped holes to thread in puller bolts. Does anybody have any hints or tricks to getting this off? Thanks!
Pullstart 62,790 #2 Posted July 6, 2020 If you can start some wedges in there, like construction shims... and work up to pickle fork / tie rod tools... you might be able to tap it off the crank. Shim from both sides, to keep the wedge pressing parallel on the pulley. 2

ebinmaine 67,274 #6 Posted July 6, 2020 I used a 3 jaw puller. Caught one of the grooves that was flat toward the puller. Got it all set up then wrapped the puller with a band clamp so it couldn't come off. That was before I had a set of pullers like mentioned above...
JoeM 7,871 #7 Posted July 6, 2020 Wedges and tapping the shaft lightly. Some of those pulleys had a thicker area between groves, if you use a puller make sure you are behind the thicker ring.

953 nut 55,075 #13 Posted July 9, 2020 Mike's @squonk set up in the previous post is the way to go. I use an air impact gun to run the bolt in on the puller and if it isn't moving give the end of the puller bolt a couple of blows with a BFH tool to shock it. Some times there will be enough rust between the pulley and shaft that you will need to heat the pulley to get it moving.
WHX?? 48,779 #14 Posted July 9, 2020 Mike you need to clean your crank before you start pulling on it & squirt some lube down that screw hole.

Grey stuff on threads is lube. Couple raps with the Dee-Walt 3/8” impact and it was in my hands Edited July 9, 2020 by squonk
