It’s been too long, I know... but I heard this truck run for the first time!  It is very responsive, starts great and has no idle smoke.  It puffs a little black when I stomp the go pedal, but clears right up.  Woo Hoo, Norman will be a strong runner again, and soon hopefully!

What did you have to do to get it going? I thought it was a runner from the description and pictures in the ad.

Just batteries, nothing more.  I think they jumped it and had it running before my family members arrived to see it.  No worries, I just wanted to hear it before tearing it down

I pulled the Texas truck into the shop today.  It was a great reminder to get the trip video put together before I start tear down!

They didn't pull the plates off of it. You could fix the transmission and drive it around until April if you wanted to! 

 

So what's so hurt about Norman's engine that necessitated another truck? I know you plan on bulletproofing this engine before you put it in, but I didn't think that the Duramax's ever gave much trouble anyways.

A head gasket blew this spring and it’s been parked ever since.  I was quoted so much to fix it, this is so far the cheaper way out!  I ordered head studs today and might go for a “BatmoWheel” turbo wheel as well.  
 

As for Norman, I think that engine might just be a test dummy and I’ll pull it apart and learn something.

Why not fix it and shove it into this truck? I know rust free trucks up there are a rarity.. Can't see why surfacing the heads and reinstalling with studs would be all that difficult/expensive to do. I know it needs transmission work too, but I'm sure a good replacement could be found for it. Is that an Allison behind it?

We’ll see how it all goes... Maybe that could be a learning project too, the Allison that is!
